This image is amazing and I can see why it would prompt the words of your 5-7-5! It does look awe-inspiring, but I am sure it would look even better in real life. Clever end rhymes with all three lines.

An American told me it was just a big hole in the ground, but when I went halfway around the world to see it I was so glad I went to experience it, and even walked right down to the Colorado river.

So glad you got to see it. I think I did see it when I was in my teens but it was 112 degrees so it wasn't a good time to enjoy the view. Great job rhyming all three lines. Hope you do well in the contest!

This was gorgeous. I always wanted to see Grand Canyon but never got around to it. I lived in Nevada, and we were always passing the Grand Canyon on the way there.
You paid it a worthy tribute with your beautifully presented rhymed poem. Great imagery and visuals and I wish you luck in the contest.

Super verse. Love the descriptive words. Even a short verse like this, well written, can really pull you in. I also think the three lines build up nicely. Nice one.
