I come from Babe Ruth territory but currently find myself in the Cincinnati Reds' backyard. Bananafish, I am so glad to see you writing again. (Outside of the political forum). Your enthusiasm for the sport is palpable. I kept looking for a reference to Trump somewhere and did not see one. Congratulations. I was also a big Nolan Ryan fan. If I could rent a Nazi time machine, I would go watch one of his games for sure.
I noticed you used the
⅓ symbol and thought you might like to use the ½ one as well, for consistency. Its HTML character code is ½
Hope to see more of this sort of writing on here! Nice job,

Harambe, thanks so much for the very kind review and six stars. Yes, Nolan Ryan was quite a phenomenon. It's incredible to think at one time the Mets had him AND Seaver. Are you a Reds fan, now? Thanks, again, for reading and reviewing. Bill

Wow! This was a riveting sports page on the Mets which I read and enjoyed thoroughly. The baseball fan in the reader would automatically track this story that starts, as with most things we cherish, in youth. Terrific look at the team this fan and team history.

It's interesting to read your side of the story of 1969. I am a Cubs fan whose heart was broken in 69! And Bill Buckner was a Cub as well. All good memories to have. Did you ever play 4 foul balls and you were out?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Thanks very much for the kind review. That's right, I remember when Buckner was a Cub. I always liked him. Very underrated player - and a very good defensive player. I never did play 4 foul balls and you're out, but we probably played games that were similar. Thanks, again, for reading and reviewing. Bill

My pleasure, Tom. Thanks for starting a great contest and thanks for the kind review. Casey Stengel was the original manager, but by 1969 Gil Hodges was the manager. Thanks again for reading. Regards, Bill

This wise Say Hey and Baseball writing prompt contest entry must be a wise work of a wise author, I think you have posted for self-pleasure, self-pride, self-happiness, self-entertainment and not for a short-signed reader like me, your posting in the smallest font so I could not read a word of your work; thank you for sharing this; well said, well done; I think time is precious, I do not like to waste my time, money and energy, so I rate your work with four star, if you post this work readable I may try; post more. I can read your profile in larger font as it is readable; thank you for posting; God bless you; ALCREATOR LITT DEAR (D R)

Too funny! Are you kidding me???? You're telling me that you didn't read it, but you're punishing me, because the font was too small for your liking? Last time I heard, this was a WRITING site. What in the site rules, or what absurd stretch of logic dictates that one should not read a piece before providing a critical review, and instead base the review on a trivial matter that has nothing to do with the content of the piece??? I couldn't give a flying shit about the four stars. It's the principle of the matter. I would have been happy with one star if it was a constructive, honest critique. Did it ever occur to you that maybe it was an honest mistake? Not that I owe you an explanation, but I didn't notice the small font, because I was focused on editing before the deadline. For some reason, it was the default font and I didn't realize it. As soon as you pointed it out, I immediately corrected it. A true Christian and person of God would have pointed it out to me in a respectful manner and dispensed with the snide remarks.
And give me a break about wasting your time, money and energy. I was the one who paid YOU, so you didn't waste any money. And you certainly didn't care about wasting your time and energy on such an obnoxious review. You should be ashamed of yourself.

This is a great story, and well-written about when you were eleven and watched the Mets rise to fame and glory. My only argument is that it's a bit long for the contest. I would remove the section after them winning the championships, and then descending into obscurity again, and just leave your personal perceptions from this part.
