I heard about that law too. Makes good since to me. Things that can not be opened from the inside should not be discarded with doors still on. Good story...Good luck

This is terror. This is anxiety producing...
I am short of breath, lost in Tommy's joy turned in on itself. A million racing thoughts... His parents! Who found him?
His boyish eyes wide in disbelief! Grief has swallowed me whole...

Years ago I remember hearing of such an incident, and have never forgotten it. It was a terrible thing.
I'm sorry it produced such a reaction, but it shows that the story caught your imagination.

I you were addressing me as Katharine....my name is Karenina.
If you were signing your make-up lease delete it as this is a blind contest and identity of writer is meant to be anonymous. -- great story!

Such a dangerous thing to do - hiding in a refrigerator. I remember horror stories from when I was a kid. You've captured the fear well. Good luck in the contest.

Impressive story! You did a great job with the prompt. Your writing is descriptive and I felt as though I was there playing with them. I felt hot and stuffy reading it. Well done!

This is horrific but it could happen so easily. It must have been terrifying for the boy, and a horrible shock for the other children. Best wishes for yor entry in the contest.

this did happen years ago. I remember hearing about it. Supposedly a law was passed that old refrigerators, left outside - anywhere - had to have the doors off. Pictures on Google proved otherwise.
Thank you for your good wishes.

This was scary and frightfully upsetting. You did a good job with the prompt, though, and this was a good piece of fiction. Good luck with the competition.

Goodness, I have heard of these things happening in real life. It is not a good thing whatsoever. There is no air so you cannot live too long before the oxygen is used up inside.

Your story is very well written but such a sad one. You picked a good example of complete darkness for the contest. I, too, can remember hearing stories of things like this happening.

    thanks, Anne.
That awful memory popped into my head when I read "Dark".
There was a book, a few years ago about a little girl, during the Second World War, I think, who locked her little brother in the closet to keep him safely hidden from the Germans while she left to run an errand, and for some reason, she never could get back.
    Both, awful!

This happens more than expected and why many areas require the door be removed, or the handle shucked................................................................................

A very well written piece. I could visualise the whole thing. Your descriptions are really powerful. I have a son and the last paragraph gave me goosebumps.
With regards and best wishes
