There a people that just look the other way, others too quick to judge and the last group , alas the fewer, that see their pain and want to help ..
you have a big heart Trask and seeing people suffer burdens your heart.
I didn't expect your poem to end that way
Praying for them can help you feel you are doing something for them .. the Lord works in mysterious ways, right?
We don't know why these people started using drugs and how they ended up living on the street.
I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt .. Living on the streets is dangerous, frightening.
So I give money and if an addict decides to use it on drugs or booze so be it .. at least he wouldn't commit a crime to get the money.

Yes so many people judge addicts. I for one don't think anybody wants to be a drug addict. It's a symptom of a tough childhood amongst many other hardships in early life.

People use drugs to escape reality maybe an abuse in childhood or in a marriage..
Many veterans end up addicts due to the horrors they were part of in war.
There are also those that are rich and bored .. they try to escaped that sense of emptiness ..
Either way, in the long run drugs destroy .

This was beautifully written. Your first three lines painted a vivid picture in my head, and your last five were emotionally grabbing. Your meter flowed nicely and your rhyme scheme was fitting for the poem's vibe. I liked your near rhymes of sorrow and marrow. Well done!
It is indeed hard to watch anyone struggle with addiction--especially a loved one. I appreciate the benediction at the end.

The poet did a great job writing this poem. I like it because it sounds like a poem describing someone who is an addict and then the poet takes a turn and ends with a prayer for the addict. I also love this poem because it shows that the poet shows empathy and humility for someone who is going through something. It was a good poem descriptive poem.
