Excellent entry for the 100 Word Flash Fiction
Contest. Good word count. The flash fiction, though short, tells a complete story. Well done!

We had The Lone Ranger here in the UK when I was a child, and I loved it! I can imagine you, and many other children, on their trestle horses, riding off to save the West. I enjoyed this and the memories it brought back. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Dad was great at making simple toys for us - I loved my trestle horse. He made the tail out of fluffed up rope.

This is a well told and fun story, and goes back to the times when kids enjoyed themselves with simple things and great imagination. Greta twist at the end, a real surprise. Well done.

This is me and my brother playing... simple fun, when fathers made things for their kids.

This one-hundred-word flash fiction story, Hi Yo Away We Go, has the proper word count and reveals this funny kids' play which takes me back to my own days playing The Lone Ranger and Tonto.

I remember the Lone Ranger. I was young but I do remember it. "Who was that masked man?" Remember that. Also, My Friend Flicka, Sky King, The Three Stooges, and Mickey Mouse Club? Saturday was the best day to watch television. I like the idea that your dad made horses out of his wooden saw horses. Great job!! Good luck with the contest.

LOL, what a hoot! This is a very good entry for this contest, good luck. Just a little imagination is all it took in the 1950s, and you were the Long Ranger. The younger brother was always Tonto. I was the older brother. Excellent work!

I agree with you. The Lone Ranger and Silver were part of our growing up days. I loved the television movie, also. Never got tired of Tonto either. Thank you for bringing home some good thoughts.

Gosh, The Lone Ranger - that goes back a ways. I bet now it would be classed as not politically correct, racist or some other dumb label. A shame because if you look at the partnership - it is a bond between two different cultures. I enjoyed your author's notes and this nicely constructed story. It lead the reader down a different path when, at the end, it was a wooden horse and kids having horse play.
Thank you for sharing this childhood memory.

Thanks for your review. Yes, it would probably be seen as demeaning to Tonto the 'Injun' - oops, not allowed to call them that. Our childhoods were much simpler back then, playing cowboys and injuns.

That was one of my favorite shows. And your post is great. And it sounds like you and your brother had a great time together riding that wood horse. My horse was a toy broom. Those were the good old days. Good Luck. And thank you for the memories.

A very fun and clever story. Using Tonto and The Lone Ranger was brilliant. A curious reader will stop by. Those of us who remember them particularly.
The story is so well-told and a fun read, again for those of an age who sat in front of a small screen.
What fun that dad gave you wooden horses for your playing.
Best wishes,
Mary
