This was a beautiful Tanka, Gypsy. The picture was perfect for your words. I appreciated the idea of having dreams that caused the grief that represent the footprints that are found beneath the snow. Those dreams are priceless. Blessed be n hugs!

The final line took me by surprise..By the way did you mean "footprints" ?
We are so used to seeing our steps imprinted in the snow that the reversal is a surprising idea. Very creative metaphor for the motivations we bury in our subconscious mind.
Excellent work Gypsy
Stay safe and blessed

I like your poem - The picture is sharp and clear....on the other hand, the message of the poem leads me in many directions at the same time - (like a dream does) (Lucid dreams) where I am awake in the dream, knowing that I'm dreaming, in my tormented state of mind, dreaming of whoever, as it involks feelings of (grief memories- sometimes death?) IE repressed, I thought I had dealt with and were gone. But were, actually, metaphorically, like footsteps beneath the snow, only hidden in the subconscious, being played out in the dream state simultaneously experienced by the physically body while sleeping. Perfectly clear. How the brain deals with conscious daily stuff that gets triggered sometimes at night when we sleep. And you were able to say it in 22 words. Good Job. Footsteps beneath the snow -nice.

Another fine poem, Gypsy----and one I sure can relate to; I'll be going along fine, no worries, then I'll think of an event from my past and I'm a wreck

Of these three listed today this is my least favorite. Dreams and Sweet Scents are my favorites and are deserving of five stars. So what I am going to do is cut and paste this comment to be sure to give you credit on those as well as this one. Where did your interest in Japanese life begin?
Do you have a piece written describing it/ if so please share.

Thank you very much for your review and kind words, Tom. Have a wonderful weekend. I love visual arts and Japanese Poetry used strong imagery. I also love the zen satori (twist insightful last line). I don't have a poem that explains it, I may write one today, in your honor.

Oooh! I like the imagery of "footsteps beneath the snow" ! What a great way to describe the grief that is hidden below our conscious thoughts. The grief still exists though unseen.

This is wonderful, a definition of never to be forgotten loss. Your comparison of memories in lucid dreams to footsteps beneath the snow is a truly perceptive and unique recognition.
