Fascinating piece. I adore the subtlety and intentional ambiguity that forces the reader to infer. The woman tries to "look younger" at smiles at herself. The children see a "monkey" in the mirror. The reader engages: Did the woman break the mirror in frustration? And why that closing line? Her age will force her expendability? Man, the whole thing is so clever and loaded with meaning. It is the kind of piece you want to revisit, the kind that lingers in your mind. Love it.
