I'm so sorry for your loss. This is an interesting story and I wish I knew more, like you. I feel like people make judgements on others that they truly don't know. So if your aunt wasn't bubbly and out going she was probably considered rude. That's one negative about our society.
Thank you for sharing.
Many blessings to you.

Thank you Heather for your thoughtful and encouraging review and your insight into the lives of people who may be in distress and not just being rude.
Blessings and have a great weekend
Janet.

A very well-written poem about a person who was not very well-liked but treated her niece with kindness.
I had a friend like this so I can understand Aunt Edna. I bet her own childhood was a struggle and her parents tough.
Sorry for your loss
Best wishes,
Mary

This is a heart-felt poem about your aunt.
You might want to correct your word, surly. It should be surely.
Other than that, it is well written and so nice that in spite of her behavior to others, she was sweet to you and you remember her with fondness.
It sort of sounds like, from you remarks at the end, that her husband was the cause. He probably wore her down; either that, or it was catching. ( I don't mean to be flip.)
Anyway good poem.

Thank you for taking the time to write a tribute to one of those elders who might have seemed stern or unpleasant to some or few, but nevertheless made a deep and positive impression upon you. Rings true!

A telling poem about a person we all have seen the likes of.
The message comes through that love can come with some rough edges, which only temper it. The flow of the poem is good. The repeating of "surly not" adds impact to the consistency of her attitude described. The images are good. The rhymes are unforced.
Thanks for a good read.

This is an interesting poem about a unique person. She was surly (ill-tempered) not, meaning she was not surly. I take it she was not surly with you. "Prestigious, she was surly not." Could it be she was 'surely' not? Or Privileged and Prominent...'surely' not?
I love that you honored your aunt in a poem because she treated you nicely. Like you said in your notes, you will never know all of her circumstances.

I think some people have maybe an unfortunate manner, but really when examined closely they are model citizens, I've found if people don't like someone, they'll make up reasons to dislike them, or adopt someone else's reason. That's people for you, beautifully written Janet, an excellent poem, well done, blessings Roy
