I enjoyed this poem, and even more your explanation that apart from yourself your aunt did not seem to be well-liked. This explained a certain chasm effect in your writing. I found the rhymes gave a satisfying solidity to the poem.

Your poem is excellent in every respect--skillfully and creatively written, moving, and vividly descriptive of an enigmatic, difficult person who was
hard to really know.

Janet, this is excellently done! I can feel your sense of remorse and grief for the loss of your Aunt Edna. She may have been unfriendly to some but to you, she was always kind. Sounds like there was plenty more to her story that drove her and her husband to be closed up inside. I appreciate your honesty and forgiveness to her. She had good qualities that others couldn't see.
Have a marvelous week,
Jesse

Well done on writing a heartfelt tribute to your aunt Edna. Some people make judgements about others without really knowing them. You obviously saw a different side to your aunt because you probably gave her time and love. It is what everyone deserves. Your poem has excellent rhythm and rhyming. Well done.

Bless you, Janet! You were able to show the love that your aunt needed and could see a side of her no one else could. I love the very gentle way your eulogy tells us about her from the external qualities and finally to the personal impact on you. Beautifully said!

You did a good job with your poem about your aunt. Your lines read well with great imagery. I could see everything as I read. You painted a great picture of your aunt. I believe she saw something in you that was different than in others--love and respect.
Respectfully, Jan

Loved your poetic tribute, Janet!
There are many lines that remind me of my own mother!
I used to tell my children that when their grandma was cranky, it was because she "hurt." And I think there is a great deal of truth to that. Elderly people hurt physically, and many times emotionally.
But like your Aunt Edna, I enjoyed the relationships of a number of relatives and elderly who were just cantankerous to others. And yes, there probably is "more to my (your) aunt's story than we will ever know!"
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you Diane for your thoughtful and encouraging review.
Thank you for the reminder that sometimes elderly people hurt physically and/or emotionally and that sometimes that is why they can be cantankerous to others and not because of anything we might have done.
Blessings and hope you have a great weekend.

Thank you for this tribute to your aunt and I am glad that you remember her kind words and smiles for you. So sorry that she did not get along that well with others - but one will never know why she was that way.

Excellent poem that explores your feelings about your aunt. I like how you are open minded about why she may not always been pleasant. "Perceptive, prudent and precise" is a great line that captures a part of her character.
