Harry,

You vividly described in a few words that crack sound heard in the winter. In my area, we had an unusual snow storm in early October 1987. In the morning we woke to the sound of cracks. We thought it might be some one shooting a rifle. We had many trees that fell and others cracked because the leaves were still on the trees. We lost electricity for 4-5 days. Fortunately, the temps were not that cold following this once in a lifetime October snowstorm.

Don't know if it was good to bring back that memory. Thanks for sharing and for the feedback. January 26, 1967, we had 23 inches of snow in Chicago. Trees came down, power was out, people left their cars on the expressways.

thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest

This lanturne, Ice Storm, has the proper formatting and brings the elements of the meteorological event to this brief, descriptive poem with the final onomatopoeia for effect. Nice.
