Out of sixes, Jesse, but your personal narrative/essay is worthy, and I am honored to witness, vicariously, your journey to independence.
As you write, "I will achieve my goals one step at a time." So very true.
One of my favorite quotes, by the Chinese philosopher, Lao-tzu, reads, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." I have embraced the wisdom of those words many times throughout my life...

Thank you for sharing!

Good morning, Diane! Your virtual six is worth just as much to me. I am honored also to be your friend. Thank you for the quote by a Chinese philosopher saying that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. These are very wise words and I will embrace them as you have so many times in your life.
You, my friend, are a great role model for me with your spunkiness and the fact that you have survived two knee replacements and still hike and garden every day of your life.
    Have a wonderful week!

Wow.
So many deep questions.
I would go for the independence.
But, I like being alone.
You are ultimately the only one
that can fill the voids, even
with others there.
Of course, I can't really know
what you daily must mentally
AND physically face.
Sounds like you really have a lot
to ponder.
Of course, you have many friends
here...but, no, it's not the same.
My best positive thoughts are with you!!
Blessings...

Thanks, Judy, for the exceptional rating and review! I am trying to go for independence too and I admire your ability to enjoy being alone. But, yes, I am the only one who can decide what is best for me and that is the scary part, the decisions that face me every day of my life! Thanks for your caring and encouraging comments, my friend, you are one of my closest friends on this site!
I appreciate your best positive thoughts and hope that you are doing well too!
    Have a wonderful week!

Requires a lot of deep thought, but you'll hit on the perfect balance/solution. Decisions are always hard, I'm really bad at decisions. I am so honored to be considered a close friend, and you know you can always talk/vent/rant to me. Hope you have a good week!!

Yes, you are a close friend of mine. I will take you up on that talk/vent/rant with you on a PM soon enough!
    Take care,

to be alone
Independence

I know how you feel. You expressed it well.

After my divorce I lived alone for ten years. Most of the time I was alright, I even enjoyed the alone time, but when my depression hit, alone was not fun anymore. Then my alone time turned into loneliness. I'm an introvert person. It's hard for me to make friends.

Now I live with my daughter, her husband, and my grandson. I take care of him when they work.

Even though I am not lonely most of the time, sometimes I miss having a life partner.

Anyway, good job Jesse, excellent poem.

Thank you so much for the exceptional rating and review! I appreciate you sharing about how being alone affected you after your divorce. Living with your daughter her husband and your grandson is a good way to offset the loneliness you were feeling before. I too miss having a life partner although I am doing a pretty good job of enjoying being alone!
Thanks for the extra Gypsy hugs!

I was very much in love with my ex-husband and for the first few years I wanted to die. It was horrible. Now I am over him and can't believe how bad it was. I really thought we were going to grow old together. Sorry, probably too much information.

Not at all, Gypsy, I care very much for you and how you really wanted to grow old together with your ex-husband.
Don't be afraid to reach out to me and tell me about yourself.
    Big hugs, remember?
    Your friend,

I live alone and have always enjoyed it. I'm a loner by nature, and can entertain myself for hours. I think it comes from being an only child, but I don't think that is altogether. We can't depend on others to make us happy, it has to come from within ourselves.

This was absolutely great, Jesse. You presented so many questions and just kept asking them. In one sense you truly appreciate your aloneness but then in another you value your caregivers. My suggestion would be to make up your mind and stick with it. Great job, well done and enjoyed.

You have posed some very interesting and heartfelt questions which we have all at some point or another asked. We all love having people around, and all love time to ourselves. Enjoy the company of caregivers when they are with you, but enjoy Jesse when you are alone. Surround yourself with things you like to look at or read. And remember, you have a Fanstory family of writers like yourself, ready to read and respond. As you said in your post, "take each day as it comes and work on improving."

Thank you, my friend, for this positive and encouraging review! You make some excellent points and I agree that I need to enjoy the caregivers while they are here and enjoy Jesse while I am alone. Thank you for reminding me of my Fan Story family of poets and writers who are ready to read and respond. As I work on improving myself and my independence I also work on improving my writing skills.
    Have a wonderful Tuesday!

To be alone doesn't mean one is lonely. You did a good job with your informative post about yourself. I like the way you ended this by saying you will work each day to improve. That's a great positive attitude. Your goals are within reach as you progress day to day. Sometimes it's a good thing to be by oneself, but always know there is help not far away.
Take care.
Respectfully, Jan

In this concise, well-written piece, you have conveyed a powerful message on a very common catch-22 situation: How can I be independent without being lonely!? The last lines confirm that you have a positive attitude.

This is a poignant and heartfelt write Jesse and you really opened up here. Loneliness can eat us up inside and destroy our self esteem Jesse. I also live alone. I have lots of hobbies and keep myself busy everyday. I love life and it is what you make it Jesse. Maybe joining some clubs would help you make new friends in your neighbourhood. It is true that giving to others brings rewards too, good luck, love Dolly x

I liked this very much. It brought memories back of when I was as young as seven and my school reports already read 'Katherine is often alone, but is never lonely'. This state of affairs continues as I live with my nose immersed in a book, and yes I am happy, so.
