Excellent entry for the Two women sit at a deserted bar writing prompt contest.
Cool story about reporter Dana Westbrook, and newbie Marcia McCoy at the Polly Ester's Bar.
It's well thought-out story in its entirety, though brief, compelling in structure and presentation.
Good luck in the contest

Appreciate the insightful review.

An interesting story, and I wonder if the writers for newspapers really feel that way. Newspapers make bad decisions, and it is often supposedly for the sake of readership. Best wishes for your entry.

Hey author, this is an interesting and unique entry into the contest. I got quite a charge out of the alligator artwork.
You've got the component parts of a story.
Just a couple of typos here:
The latest decision by our illustrous (illustrious) Editor
Mayor McKight being busted for lewd and lacivious (lascivious) with a minor
There won't be anymore (any more) for this rag.
Let me tell you, Marcia, Ive (I've) been a writer a long time
Easy repairs I'm sure. That said, I wish you great luck with the voters. :))

Appreciate the suggestions and the review.

I've known her a long time and poets serve their purpose. - needs a comma
; the ones who keep the presses running - should be a complete sentence after the semicolon
good old boys network - boys' (apostrophe needed)
And, you don't place new patches... - reads like Ron White said this, as well.
Good luck.

I enjoyed reading this. Your readers get a very clear image of the two ladies by reading their dialogue. I love how subtly you added mannerisms that made your characters stand out even more.
I am looking forward to seeing what you share with us next. Good luck with the contest.

Ha, I don't believe for one minute that you're having a go at poets. I actually thought you were having a go at Fanstory! Whatever the truth, it was a highly entertaining twist on the theme. An enjoyable read. Thanks.

I agree with you, there is a definable difference between a poet and a writer, poets tend define a culture, whereas writing is more general and writes about its underbelly, or even something upbeat and optimistic. I like the name of Polly Ester, one of the first synthetic material. Well done, great write, good luck, blessings Roy

At the end of the day. . .writers write, poets write and we all pee the same. If you look at the newspapers and media today, I don't consider what they do is write. I think they sensationalize to sell papers, media, broadcasting of any nature to simply bring in the bucks. People who write don't write to make a living. . .most won't make a living at writing. :) Best of luck with this piece.

Great story for the writing prompt! No, I won't stone the messenger. A very interesting and well-written story that actually reveals a lot of the character traits of the protagonists in the story.

I like this contest entry because the secret is an original one that doesn't involve dating the same man or something similar. Your point is well taken. There are few poets that have impacted events as many prose writers have. Although there have been some crossovers, like Rudyard Kipling and others. But as far as newspapers go, the poetry is just the trim.
