What a great 5-7-5! You have entertainingly and descriptively presented your big dog to the reader. Honestly, the sight of a dog that big would make me find out how fast I can run! LOL!

Thank you so much, Janice, for taking the time to read and comment on my poem. And, honestly, Dale is just a big scaredy-cat. Noisy - he barks like crazy at people he doesn't know - just before he runs and hides behind either my husband or myself. Again - thank you for the read and the treasured sixth star.

Not being a poet, I probably shouldn't attempt to review one.
As for the contest, you did the 5-7-5 requirement. Unwritten, I suppose the words an author selects and arranges must make some sort of grammatical sense. Yours do. And because I like your arrangement that paints a picture and tells a story ... 5 stars.
(Your dog needs a drink ... on a regular basis.)

Thank you, Wayne, for taking the time to read and review my poem. As far as Dale (the dog) needing a drink, the last thing I need is a 150+ pound dog that is tipsy - LOL! Again - thank you for the kind review.

Very true.
Amazing what a dog will actually be scared of.
I see this is for a competition. I hope you do well.

Thanks so much for sharing. We appreciate it.

I'm glad he has you for protection, Sherry. You did a great job with your contest entry. I like the way you formatted the lines. Your words are well chosen, they are descriptive, the syllable count is correct, and have a good message. Being scared, to your Mastiff, doesn't having anything to do with his breed's size. It has all to do with individual personality. Love the picture.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you so much, Jan, for taking the time to read and review my poem. And yes - everything to do with his personality - his brother is scared of NOTHING!

Your dog needs to get rid of the illusion fear. Lol. This is so funny. Thanks for sharing. I am sure you comfort him more than he comforts you. I love this.

WAY TOO FUNNY!
I wonder where you got this idea... it couldn't be from real life, could it? Lol.
Love the pic you chose to go with the perfect count for a 5-7-5 contest, Sher. Hope you win!
Blessings,
Deb

Very succinct, without any wasted words. It paints a clear picture of this gentle giant. I love the humor. All together... very well done. and very competitive. Best of luck in the contest.

"Really?!?" by Sherry Greywolf raises the reader's evebrows with 17 syllables devoted the paradox of a huge but scaredy-dog mastiff. I tried and could not find a way to make this comical observation more extreme within the limits of the form. I have difficulty calling a good but very short poem excellent; is it really as entitled to that rating as would be an excellent twenty line poem? I don't think so, and therefore I award this cute poem a four.

The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

Nice Haiku, Sherry. Sounds like you have a one hundred sixty pound pussy cat on your hands. I like big dogs, but I put an eighty pound limit on their size.

The objective correlative of your work reminisces an orderly dog, which sees any change in the positioning of things as threatening.

The work highlights the mastiff's huge body build and how it is ironically threatened by mere grasshoppers and papers tossed by wind.

The work earns its texture through its effective use of ironical anecdotes as well as its strict compliance with the 5-7-5 specifications of the poetry contest.

Excellent work. Bravo.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review my poem. I wish my words could show people how truly funny it is, but sad at the same time, to see this huge dog cower in the face of ... nothing. And I know he was not abused - he was born at my house. He's just a fraidy-cat.
