another I missed! Wherever was I? Likely in surgery, I think. Gifts, tonight, to find words you've written and unwrap them... Smiling at the thoughtful gestiPure...this eternal ode to mother and child.

The typos are going to be mine aplenty... and I can't blame surgery!

"gestiPure". Maybe angels created that word!

I admit that I'm attracted to this as a mother. Your poem is simple and pure. Very upbeat. The mother you put on a pedestal represents the one we either idolize or wish we had.

Excellent writing. This brings memories flooding back of when I was expecting my own four babies, and when they were born. Very enjoyable to re-live these long-gone times.

I am impressed that you understand that feminine tendency to motherhood from childhood. (Although not all little girls had that inclination toward dolls and nurturing.) The ending was a surprise that the loving mother can embolden the child to face giving love and potential heartbreak. I've known some very dedicated mothers who just wouldn't let go of their children to allow them to seek out love or make their own choices.

Again, your famous last lines:

but I can help you dare to love enough
to break your heart.

So unexpected. Your point of view as stunning in this poem.

Tim,

I like this straightforward song of adoration, in which most of the words don't need to be "unpacked," yet rife with beautiful figurative language. You saved the biblical reference for the last line -- a heart to break open like an alabaster jar, filled with metaphorical nard to anoint the beloved. Very nice.

Last stanza fills the air with the precious perfume of love, despite the inevitable bruises and scars. Lovely motherly references, even to the band-aid on the knee from tumbling from the chair.... You really are a special voice of poetry. Your Muse must be very proud of you.

A very touching, intimate, and beautifully written poem for a mother to her unborn and new baby. It is exquisite in imagery. You captured the love and wishes a mother wants for her child.
Best wishes,
Mary

This is about some of those feelings that you and I will never know, and I don't know about you, but for me, thankfully so. A kick from inside or a hungry baby with teeth. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Ric, based on your comment, I have changed the POV to be about the Mom rather than from her POV.
