Oh my God. G, I sure hope this isn't some omen. I often think, what would I do if I knew something would literally end our existence. I saw a movie call Melancholy. It's like this story... highly depressing. All too possible. And your ending is perfect.

Too busy to look up from their i-phones, etc. Yes, that would be the generation now in their pre-teens, I'm thinking. But the older generation saw it coming and tried to prepare for a world not so pretty as supported by the imagery of slithering snakes. No fornification for sure. Who would want to bring children into the 'new' world. (Actually, that's why my daughter decided not to have children) Interesting how they spent the last days. One would expect the civilized to start praying!

I know a lot of folk who seriously consider the parenting issue. I have a 10 year old daughter and I wonder what things will be like for her. Right now has had a massive impact on her.

    All the best

Wow, G this was great. Fantastic and amazing were words that come to mind. I really enjoyed how these people gathered seventeen years ago and were considered lawless those many years. The reversal was now know and the lawless became more lawless. However the end of time is the end of time for all. I agree that one can only wait. Very well done and greatly enjoyed.

This is great. I read two novels when I was growing up about the death of grass and the consequences. One of them featured a small community that had isolated itself, and protected itself from being overrun - this reminds me of these.

Great story and very intense. You did a good job writing it. I never saw a mistake. I think it is scary, especially the way our world is now. You just never know. Have a blessed evening. Shirley

It doesn't seem too much of a stretch at times, sadly. Who knows? G

Interesting scenario. This from a survivor's point of view and all the living in survival mode for seventeen years for nothing only to find the world was ending anyways. However you might want be careful with fornicating. The Bible planned to take a few out alive.

This was a great post. I liked the journalistic, flat emotionless delivery. It gave the story great perspective, as if we were watching this unfold on tv news. You had some great descriptions, and I really liked the part when you describe the clan firing at the people approaching them, no questions asked. You get that sense of desperation there. And then the hopelessness of the last scene, when the mountains crack and the end of the world ends all hope of survival. It is all a pipe dream. It puts life here in perspective. It asks the question, what is it all about? what is it all for? estory

Yeah, I tried to think of a monologue or diary entry. That flat bored tonality that Harrison Ford used in the bleak voice-over on some cuts of Blade Runner.. lol many thanks G

There are more survivalist groups than we know about. But as you pointed out, in the end, what does it matter when there's nothing to stop it? All the preparation won't change a thing. I wouldn't want to be one of the few last people left.

I think I'd want to go in the first wave, without feeling a thing preferably. G

This is very well written, as usual. Your imagery is great. The theme is a sad commentary on the direction our world could be heading. It gives us all something to ponder. Great job.

Wow waiting seventeen years for the end of the world, and without fornicating. That would definitely suck. Your story was very descriptive and I could picture everything as you wrote it. Very nice job.
