A very meaningful poem which strikes at the emotions. It is difficult to understand the pain of one who cries "Pick me!" Such a need for love, identity and worth. Beautifully written. I like the circular feel of it as well.
I just see you won the Rondel contest! Congratulations, it was a well deserved win!

Thank you so much Wendy! It?s my first time ever hearing about a Rondel and attempting to write one. I was trying to think of something that would tug at the heart.
    Thank you for reviewing it!

Congratulations on your win. "Belonging to a family of his own" strikes a chord with me. That is such a sad tale about your mother never being adopted. It is a lonely world with no sense of connection. I was adopted into a family myself, but they are all dead now, so I know something of that feeling.

First, Congratulations on winning this contest! I have four adopted children so of course I could relate strongly to the story you were telling. I thought you used the form to great advantage in your storytelling, and the rhymes were excellent as well as the meter. It is always difficult when there is such a limited number of rhymes allowed. I thought you did such a great job. MM

Your poem is very expressive and moving, conveying a powerful message about our natural desire, need, to BELONG, to be part of a loving family.
Adoption is a wonderful thing.

-Good photos and presentation.
-Thanks for sharing the notes and poem.
-I don't understand the last part of your
notes about her thinking her mom was coming back.
Did she indicate she didn't want to be adopted?
-You wrote a good poem with a good story
and very good repeating lines.
-They work very well at the end
when he was adopted, "Belonging to a family..."
-Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the review and the comments. My mom told me that her mom said that she would be back, but by the time she was about 12 years old she figured her mom was probably dead. And by then she probably felt it was too late because she was older so she just went from different foster homes. She was abused sexually by one of the foster people. So then she ended up getting married when she turned 18 because she couldn?t be in the foster system anymore, it?s a long story but there?s part of it. she turned out to be pretty amazing and raised four kids of her own and was with us and never left us. Her mother came back into the picture 33 years later

You are welcome, and thanks for sharing this. That is quite a story, and your mother is amazing, and to think her mother came back too is also amazing. You should consider this for the true story cash contest. Usually there is one every 6 months.

Moving, my friend adopted a child and the family is complete. It was a win, win. Seeing them together warms my heart. He's a good boy, unfortunately some families aren't so lucky. Good luck in the contest.

I enjoyed your poem. It's well written and the rhyme and rhythm go well together. Your words are descriptive and easy to read. About being adopted, my son (who we adopted at eight years old) had been dropped off at people's homes and his mother never came back for months at a time. By the time we adopted him he had been in fifteen foster homes that the agency knew of. He asked me one day when he was little that his mom told him she would come back for him. He asked me why didn't his mom come back and get him. I had no answer for him. I never said anything bad about her, although, I could have easily. When he became an adult he met up with biological siblings including his mother. I never said anything about him seeing her. I know I was told that he called her by her first name and made the distinction that I was his mother. She died 2 months ago. I'm glad that I never put him on the spot about seeing her and spending time with her. I'm glad that they were able to have a relationship. How does someone leave a baby like that? All I know is that he was supposed to be my son.

That is such a beautiful story Patti! That is God?s love through you. My mom?s mom told her that she would be back as well, and my mom ended up in a few foster homes was sexually abused by one. 33 years later I said a prayer wondering if my mom?s parents were alive or dead, and then her mom reached out to her and we all did not hold anything against her either. She had been an alcoholic and married a few times after she and my moms dad split up. Super long story but my mom turned out to be an amazing mom taking care of four of us. It takes someone like yourself to love non-biological children that need so desperately to be loved. 💗

I can't imagine what this is like either. Sadly, I'm sure many children through suffer this ordeal. I'm thankful that your mother survived and made a better life for you.

Thank you so much, yes it was a something we always knew about my mom but it never hit me hard until I became a mom. She did a great job raising four of us and being there even during period of six years when my stepdad kidnapped my brother and sister for six years and brought them to Mexico, that?s another story. thank you for your review 😊

Hello author, this is a most heartfelt poem filled with real writing.

Of special note:
Real love to him was never shown.
His heart cried out "please pick me!"
Belonging to a family of his own.
Taken from home when he was only three.

(Wow. There are so many soulful emotions weaved throughout this verse, especially ... "please pick me!" The reader can feel the pain and anxiety of this young man waiting to be adopting and having a family and a home of his own--something that most take for granted.)

Well chosen artwork. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer
