I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as I had a golden Labrador who like all of the breed it seems, just loved water. Reading your story brought back so many happy memories I am lucky as three of my children have Labradors of various ages, who I see often.

What a sweet story about a lovely old dog. You got one of the winners, as we have with our Roxie. It's so hard to lose our pets, even if they haven't been with us for many years. Copper sounds especially wonderful.

First, I commend for adopting the dog, especially a gentle breed. I hope you have years of enjoyment. Your story was delightful to read. I found your verb structure confusing in the paragraph beginning with "I looked back-" looked-past tense.
watch the sun-present tense
wiggle wet toes-present tense
Check all your verbs and good luck in the contest.

Awesome story, Ramona! I could picture your scenes vividly, and Copper's personality came across brilliantly. It was a wonderful slice of Copper's life. Great portrait of a great pet!

Ramona,

Losing a beloved family pet is one of the toughest things a family can go through together. I am so proud that you and your sweet family were able to give Copper a few more good years. That's awesome!

Thanks for the story!

Hello Romona Agin, a happy Thursday to you. I hope this finds you well. I enjoyed wonderful story about your beloved four-legged friend. Sounds like you made Copper's remaining time pleasant, I'm sure he appreciates it from Doggy heaven.

A way into many readers hearts have and shall be animal stories. This was great. I appreciate your looking after those orphans left behind.
Isn't Littleton about an hour N of Denver? NO, it was Milliken, Co. I passed through there in 1972 visiting a service buddy on a cattle ranch. Ugh. And I thought the Western life was something to consider until I saw them testing how far along a pregnancy was. No mas.

One of the greatest gifts we receive from dogs is the tenderness they evoke in us. [...] By their delight in being with us, the reliable sunniness of their disposition, the joy they bring to playtime, the curiosity with which they embrace each new experience, dogs can melt cynicism, and sweeten the bitter heart."
