Glad to hear it's not autobiographical! I would have been surpised if it were. You are a new grandmother - and that alone would keep you from being near ANY precipice. You have a lot to be grateful for - one of which is a fine talent as a poetess!

Thank you so very much, sweet June. Wintertime can place people in melancholia and tempt everyone to get down in the dumps... we must count our blessings and look at the bright side of things. Thanks again!

There is a bit of melancholy in every aspect of our lives. It is but natural. To feel melancholic is to delve into pensive sorrow for unending amounts of time due to unknown or no real causes. But we should make sure it doesn't overpower us. I liked your very well crafted poem. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so very much, Sesha. I agree that there is a bit of negative in everything... but, wintertime can place people in melancholia and tempt everyone to get down in the dumps... we must count our blessings and look at the bright side of things. Thanks again!

I liked your poem because we are now living in depressing times. A different way of life, stay at home they say. We all need each other as we are all part of this pandemic. Well done K xx

Although the topic is sad, you have gently moved us from melancholy to a calming peace in your well crafted sonnet! I especially liked:
"Acknowledging the good things I receive
will warm my heart by basking in the sun."
You are so right that gratefulness combats depression really well!

A fine well metered and rhymes sonnet Melissa, I adore the sentiments of appreciating our blessings despite the troubles we currently face the world over. There are so many who are teetering on the edge mentally and it has become a huge problem in the UK as being isolated from others has caused many to be depressed. Much enjoyed, skilfully written with well chosen words from a talented poet, love Dolly x

You did a great job with your sonnet, Melissa. I enjoyed reading it. You adhered to the rules of its form well. There's good smooth flow, good rhymes, and a great message. Yes, we all have blessings everyday that many overlook. Great message in the couplet. Your image is fitting.
Respectfully, Jan

I like the phrase, "on the edge of melancholy," and you've done a great job working with it. Love the sonnet! I especially like the imagery of the second quatrain, with the cavernous abyss and veils of mist. Great truth in your final couplet. Blessings. Carol

Amen. Very well said. I believe, you can't carry the negatives along with a heart full of gratitude. This knowledge saved me, and I try hard not to forget to count my Blessings daily. Blessings to you, Barbara

What a beautifully written Sonnet. It started gray and sad and ended with a notes. You described the depression very well and I hope it's not autobiographical. You just had a new granddaughter so you should be happy.
Exceptionally done.
