Well done HarryT. I agree with your writing wholeheartedly. I am reading Travels with George by Nathanial Philbrick in which George Washington traveled extensively to meet the common people and promote his strong belief in the government.
So I think you have captured what Washington would have thought of those storming the capital.
Best wishes

I happen to disagree but you have written a real sounding scenario of what might take place if Geotge Washington came back. The conversation between him and James Madison could easily take place. I don't agree with you, but you have the right to your opinion, as do I. You did a great job on this piece. Good luck with the contest.

You've set up this scenario well and i agree with your reflected opinions wholeheartedly. The Big Lie is such a gross falsehood that I can't understand why so many still swallow it. They are blind to anything but their idol, who will mis-lead them to hell.
Your use of older-style language imbues your story with an authentic feel.
I just read recently that In the long history of the United States, only one president, George Washington, did not represent a political party. It is all this partisan bullshit that is ruining America and causing division as politicians power-wrangle and curry favour for reelection.

You are not alone in your thoughts, but unfortunately fellow Americans seem to have the same mean mindset as the former president. The country ran fairly well with a two party system as long as both parties even though they disagreed could come to a compromise. But the Republicans have become the party of personal/political and worshipers of a false god. They have cast aside truth and value a lie because they think the action is a political advantage. They care not for the good of our democracy. Until Republican leadership again values the truth, I believe the country is condemned to the disfunction of blatant partisanship.

I don't know much about US politics as I live in New Zealand, but I do admire Republican Liz Cheney for her more principled focus, though if I lived there I would definitely vote Democrat.

Agree with you 100%.

I like how you brought BOTH George Washington and James Madison into the 21st century to witness the debacle of January 6: 2021. You are especially adept at making Washington sound like someone from a much earlier epoch. And their reactions are quite believable. Rod

I really like the introduction and the descriptions you use - A volley of violence was taking place as people... - this is wonderful, the words sound very good - quite poetic - but also set up a great image.
