Melissa,
This poem describes haiky well. The artwork shows the syllable count and not the meaning you should get from a haiku. I remember one my daughter came home with during a time her English class had a poetry unit
I don't like haiku
They make very little sense

The Japanese are so clever, their poetry goes back in time and yet fits todays events in nature. I enjoyed the cheeky introduction in the illustration.
Satori or a cup of sake? Helps with poems! K xx

I like the humor of the picture you chose. I never knew that haiku had so many specific rules until I started here. I remember sending some haiku to a magazine once only to be told - "it's not haiku!"

Well done. I was told the first latter's in a line are not capped in a haiku. Also aren't there haiku's of more syllables with the same format? Just asking. Been too long for me, I guess.

Hah! Melissa!
Love your sense of humor = "briefly poetic!"
I also love to attempt haiku - in any season.
I'm a talker, so to write a haiku that is worthy - in as few syllables as possible, is a real challenge for me!

Thank you for the smile!

Thank you Diane. Yes, brevity is a real challenge ~ at least for me. Thought this one might be fun... thanks for getting it... not everyone did :). Hugs.

I had to have a laugh at this one, I'm afraid even though I admire those that can turn their deft poetic abilities to haiku, my blabbermouth (or that pen?) leads me on, beautifully written Melissa, blessings Roy

I agree, Roy, that brevity is a challenge... for me anyway. Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

A clever Haiku and this form is not my favourite, this is probably because I have too much to say for myself and there are never enough syllables to express everything in a Haiku, you did an amazing job here though, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

I agree with you. I like to work on the "aha" moment and satori makes Haiku special, I think. I have written quite a few of them since I join Fanstory. It's a little easier than writing a Sonnet, which I just wrote one and will post soon.

Well done.

OK Melissa, this is a nice jab at my favorite poem format. You certainly captured the essence of this genre in your post. Your satori says it all!

Mark

P.S. I don't recall where I read that 'haiku' should not be capitalized. I do capitalize it, but given your poem I am willing to change my ways going forward. (-;

I don't think I've read anything about capitalizing haiku... but when I read it online, it seems it is written both upper and lower... so, take your pick, Mark!! LOL. Thank you.

I think this is awesome. Both you and the artist are briefly humorous. You both captured the essence of the haiku. From my understanding, a traditional haiku does not use the typical poetic devices such as alliteration, personification, etc. So, it is "barely" poetic.
Both you and the artist capture this idea in your humorous satoris. Well done.
