This was really good! You've told the reader everything we needed to picture Irene and feel sad that it is her funeral.
I saw nothing that needed an edit, and I enjoyed the read.
Things I really liked:
The details about Irene's house rebuild.--showed Irene's financial status well.
The details about he volunteer efforts.--showed her efforts to be helpful.
The use of the words "Forced herself onto the stage of life."--I'm glad you used that phrase more than once, it sticks in the readers brain well.
Very good I enjoyed it thank you for sharing!

What a heartwarming story, Terry. Zoe may have been bossy and mean, but humble as shown by your examples. Over 200 attended her funeral! You give amazing stories
of what made her popular. I love your phrase that she forced herself onto the stage of life. Good luck in the contest.

Well done Terry, not just for relating a very touching story, but your way of telling it was bright and entertaining. You displayed much respect for Irene and a good deal of humility in your realisation that she was actually a significant and noteworthy member of her community. It takes manners and character to display such humility. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoyed reading this story. Irene was certainly a character. Sounds like a good funeral, quite uplifting. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Jen.

You did a great job with your tribute to Irene, I enjoyed reading it though it was poignant. Miss Irene lived her life on her own will--not what someone else wanted her to do. Her funeral sounded special to me--esp the singing of Goodnight Irene by the attendees.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Superb post. It deserves ALL Time BEST status. Well-written and very moving and touching. You're right, more standing ovations and joyful songs would be fantastic. Great job.

What a great story you have written. So many times, the people we don't pay much attention to have done greater things in life than we can imagine. I love the fact that they sang her special song at her funeral.

Aww, this story made me smile. It is written so warmly, I felt like I knew Irene. A great tribute to a woman that had a zest for life and made sure her days counted. She would have been proud and no doubt was standing in spirit singing along to Good Night, Irene. A beautiful story. Thank you for sharing.

Irene was a remarkable woman, living life on her own terms. I think it's wonderful how she took part in so much around her. How many of can say we will receive a standing ovation at our funeral? I want to be more like Irene. Wonderful story!
