This is a good start to a novel. You have brought somebody back from the dead, only to kill them off again, definitively, creating drama. Also, with the introduction of the golden key you have engineered mystery.

    Thank you, Katherine. Ah, the subtlety of misdirection. Elyse closed her eyes softly because of loss of blood. She will hang on to life in an induced coma while the mystery of the gold key unfolds. The gold key is the Macguffen and the ICU where Elyse fights for her life is the clock. Thanks again. Yard.

Last paragraph provides many possible directions this story could travel in from revenge to potentially several others.

How sad thst he found the love of his life, inexplicably returning after a mortar bomb took them both out, but mysteriously not him, but she returned five years later, but it looks like she's gone for good this time, but then, is she? I loved this very expertly written piece my friend, well done, blessings Roy
