Hello Tom.

This is something I have never experienced. Your narrative about the use of the community computers is interesting from the perspective of how they are viewed by the people using them. I was amused by the fact they have names which makes them personal.

Hi Robert, it's nice to hear from you. I think they put the names on them so that they could assign a different password to each one to keep track of who was downloading what or some such thing. I kind of viewed them as having personalities though; the majority of them were jerks. Having said that, I guess if I were used and abused on a regular basis I'd be more of a jerk than I am already. Oh well.

    Have a blessed evening.

I could imagine the chaotic scene. Yes, I would've thought rules would be enforced as to computer use. You told the story well. Your words are descriptive, and this was fun to read.
Respectfully, Jan

May I suggest ~

back-round [ background ] for this story.
for reason's [ reasons ] I can no
was down(,) and I was forced to

On occasion(,) I come here(,) and all eight computers are in use.
I really think the library chairs should have built in heating elements, much like an electric stove. After thirty minutes of one person's bum sitting on the seat, a sensor would turn on the element(,) and it would heat up until it became too uncomfortable for even the most calloused person to remain seated.

Julian(,) the computer(,) is located at the end of the table, which means I'm not sandwiched between two other users in case the library is crowded.
Most of the time(,) Julian works pretty fast.
The name tag is missing- probably ripped off in a fit of rage by a patron who was totally frustrated with it's (its) performance [ which is understandable. ]. Understandable.
I was forced to sit at Amos, who (which) proved to be totally unsatisfactory. Just as well [well, since I had. . . .. I had to go home and retrieve the hardware for my camera [ in order to download. . . ] so I could download a picture for the blog post.
When I came back, the gal was sitting at Amos(,) and Julian was free.
I hope she doesn't [ didn't think I was trying. . . I'm trying to make off with her stuff.]
That could [would ] be an unpleasant scenario.
She, too, found Amos to be unsatisfactory, and has [ had ] moved across the table to a computer that was [ delete that was ] being used by a fellow playing dominoes. Domino Man went downstairs to use the restroom and [ delete and comma before when ] when he returned his spot was occupied by Needy Lady. Fortunately Domino Man is [ was ] pretty laid back and no scene ensued.

There are times when I come up here and it's complete and utter chaos. Especially after school lets out. The kids seem to think the computers are primarily for games(,) and they play them emphatically. They talk back and forth without reservation(,) and the noise makes it really hard to concentrate. I do wish the librarian would put in a grant request for a the cattle prod [ delete that ]that I had suggested some months ago. There would be much more order. I would probably contribute to such a worthy cause myself. Oh well, wishful thinking [ on my part, so I guess. . . . ]I guess I'd better go. My post is finished, and this seat is starting to get uncomfortably warm.

Hello Jan, thanks so much for the kind review and the suggestions. I did change most of the errors, but some I left because I guess that's the way I talk, if that makes sense. Nonetheless, I value your opinion and your wisdom. You've helped me a number of times with corrections and I do truly appreciate your input.
    Have a blessed evening.

This is a vividly described debacle about Library computers. I, too have had experiences with library computers that were memorable for all the wrong reasons, so this piece immediately gained my attention.
There are two spags, one I can't find again and the other is "a the cattle prod". Just a quick flick of a digit to fix it. Sorry about the first one. It was something to do with an incorrectly expressed verb. In present tense when it ought to have been in past tense. In the first part of the posting. cheers Cass

Thanks for catching the errors Cass. Several people caught what I should have before I published. I appreciate your comments. Yeah, public computers are the pits. Sometimes you just don't have another alternative, but they are seldom the first choice most of us make.
    Have a blessed evening.

Hello Tom!
What a hoot!
I don't believe I'll ever see a public computer without first checking if it has an assigned name!
I found your narrative especially amusing and accurate as far as young people and computers go!
Well-paced and a delightful read!

Thank you for sharing!

P.S.
Thank you for the lovely Christmas card! So kind of you to send it to us!
At the rate I am going, my 2021 cards should be ready to be mailed in June! Yikes! :)

Hello Diane, what a blessing to hear from you! I do hope you and your family had a grand Christmas. Could you PM me with your address again? When I addressed it, I was wondering if I had copied the address down correctly, the street I believe. Obviously it got there, but I would like to make a correction if need be to my address book. Thanks so much for the review and comments my friend.
    Have a blessed evening.

Some years ago the local library did likewise, and perhaps it was my imagination, but you're right, it did seem that some of the computers worked better than others, much like varying degrees of abilities in we humans, almost like specific gifts and abilities, but I haven't used them for years. Beautifully written Tom, HNY, Blessings Roy

Hi Roy, thanks for catching the typo. I had a number of them. For reasons that escape me, I manage to miss them before publishing, no matter how many times I read them. I'm truly blessed to have so many accomplished people help me on this site. As far as the computers go, perhaps people gravitate to one or the other more and they get more use, who knows? I suppose I should be grateful that they're available for public use.
Have a blessed day my friend.

Thanks so much for reviewing this post Liz. I had several people point out my errors. Unfortunately I had a number of them. It's frustrating that I can miss so much. Hopefully I corrected the majority of them. It's so nice to hear from you. Thanks for the kind review.
