OMG! What an ending! Nice contrast with the first line where he 'gingerly' holds on to the vase. The short sentences serves you well in the retelling of this incident.

Me too. I'm a walking disaster sometimes. My daughter says "I can't take you anywhere, Mom."

Oh my goodness, how unfortunate. From good news to bad ending - coming so close to having a whopping $120,000 in the bank then the good fortune shattered. This is a great little read on waiting for the big break when in fact, the big break presented in a different way. Thank you for sharing this reflective read.

This hasn't happened---yet! Thanks for stopping by.

Ha, ha! I saw that one coming, Liz, especially after the appraised value was an exaggerated $120,000. It was a fun little story to read though, revealing a lot in just 100 words. Well done.

Hi Liz,
You crack me up!
Oh the irony?
Used to watch this show... but I'm already a bowerbird and I don't need any further encouragement to collect anymore things. Just recently gave away all my old bottle collection I have been holding onto for twenty odd years My wife Jade is always saying,"what do you need anymore dust collectors for?" Me, "cause I love old things" and yeah, I can't help myself when it come to shiny things. Smile((((((((((.
A well present essay, both visually and written.
With our thoughts we create...
focused reaction.
Kind regards,
James.

Wow, that was amazing, Elizabeth. I couldn't imagine finding out the news of the worth of the vase without having it in a secure place first. Again wow...what devastation. Very well done and enjoyed. Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, Season Greetings!

Now that sounds like something I would do! Poor man. I bet he wept all the way home. I'm sure I would. That's too bad. I feel sorry for him. If it wasn't for bad luck, some folks wouldn't have any luck at all. I'll bet he cried all the way home.

As Homer Simpson would say: "DOH!"
I love Antiques Road Show....I watch the reruns of the reruns...
Half the time I turn to Ed and say something brilliant like: "Seriously? I wouldn't have paid fifty cents for that at a yard sale!"
I do not have the "eye" for treasures.
I am, however, an Olympic klutz!
For darn sure I'd be the one dropping the "Ming."
Your post resonated on every level!
(Now where is my dust pan?)
Smile....

Your last line in this flash certainly tells the story. as far as writing rules go, that's what the last line in a flash is supposed to do. As far as the man who owned the Ming Vase is concerned, I cannot imagine experiencing something like that.

Oh no, but it could really happen. One never knows what valued mystery item is awaiting them at those sales. To find out the real value of a garage sale item would probably cause an accident like you wrote, Liz.
Thanks for sharing. All I ever find at garage sales is broken REAL junk that the garbage man wouldn't even want.
Respectfully, Jan

Yes what an enjoyable tale told with candour and a hint of humor too - hope it's not true - it's an interesting show and the many and varied items that appear
