Hi Sandra.
I always look for these idiom histories to see if there are some ai missed.
I like that one went to the Bible. It seems the British really like to live by them at certain times.
Your Christmas puns are real groaners.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.

Thank you so much for going back to read this. It made me go through them. I used to enjoy looking up the idioms, it was fun finding the reason of how they came about. Thank you, Joan! Warm hugs, my friend. Sandra xx

Hi Sandra, I loved the baby Jesus joke the best. Thanks for all the information on some of these strange idioms. I have a couple I know of so I should add a chapter to the book. I'll do that in the new year.
Merry Christmas! I hope you get to spend it with your granddaughter. I hope you and your family are all healthy. I had a mild case of Covid back in November. I was shocked because I couldn't trace it back to where I would have gotten it. I'm so careful too because my mom lives in assisted living and my brother is battling cancer and I've been doing so much for both of them. Everyone else in my family all tested negative several times so I'm thankful for that.
Take care, hugs:) Sally

I loved that one, too. I'm going to use all the jokes for my Christmas quizz with my family. Thank you for reading this one, Sally, even when it wasn't paying anything anymore.
I'm sorry you went down with Covid, but so very relieved it was only a mild dose. We don't know who we might pass in the streets who might have it and unwittingly pass it on. You've got a lot to deal with, haven't you? What with your dear mum and brother so vulnerable, I'm so sorry your brother has that terrible battle to fight.
I hope you have a nice Christmas, my friend, I know it will be hard for you. I'll be thinking of you and pray your New Year will bring about good news for your brother and some joy for your dear mum. Lots of love and hugs, dear friend. Sandra xxx

Hello Sandra,
25000 idioms? I'll be under the hill long before it's over.
I always thought that stiff upper lip was from sniffing a lot of glue.
Another excellent chapter for your book.
I like the tinsilitis joke the best.
Have a wonderful Christmas with family, my friend.
Best wishes.
Robert

Lol, I'm sure there are many glue sniffers with stiff noses, let alone lips.
Yes, there are 25000 idioms, I don't think I'll be doing all those, I'll leave that for others to research. I've been told there are many more in the Bible, so some go back more years than I can count in what's left of my lifetime.
Thank you so much, Robert, for that shiny sixth star, and the fun review. I've enjoyed reading all of them throughout the year. You Have a wonderful Christmas, too, my friend, and a bright, healthy, happy New Year! Love and hugs, Sandra xx

Sandra,
What fun! Isn't it crazy what we humans can do to a language? *smile* I don't think we can be trusted with anything! hahahaha
Even the words we speak aren't to be trusted in our hands -- and mouths. This was a fun post!
Note - in the jokes section, can you recheck the spelling of 'Rudolph'?
Thanks!

You were the only person to spot that spelling mistake, Robyn, thanks so much for pointing it out.
I've learned a lot researching these idioms, and while I think some are completely logical, others are mind blowing! This could made a good quiz program. Thank you, dear friend, for reading these idioms, I'm glad you enjoyed them. Have a wonderful Christmas, and a happy, very healthy New Year. Love and hugs. Sandra. xxxx

Hi Sandra--thanks for bringing a smile my way. As I read through your idioms, I kept thinking, "Yep, I know that person, or perhaps more personal...yep, I'm guilty of that."

Your writing is wonderfully surprising! It is self explicative but also enrich your readers "elevating them to a higher step" in English!! I humbly invite yon in keep unfolding the mysteries of daily expressions we have no idea of its origin! I put "only" six stars as no more were available. Merry Christmas for you and your family!

What a lovely compliment! Thank you so much. It seems these idioms are quite popular on here, so I will continue, and encourage others to discover the origins of others. There are so many of them! Thank you so much for the sixth star, I really appreciated them and your comments. Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year with your friends and loved ones. :)) Sandra xx
