Ciao poet!

I learnt what snow blindness is referring to when I went to visit my parents in Spain for the first time .. they bought a villa in Tossa de Mar on the Mediterranean coast.

My first day I went for a walk in town and on the beach and by midday I felt pain when I closed my eyes.

My eyes literally got sunburnt from the UV reflecting of the water.

One definitely must wear protective sunglasses.

In fact I did notice everyone was wearing sunglasses but being naive I thought they wanted to look COOL.

Your first line took me on a very interesting journey .. I figured it was not just poetic licence, so I googled : liquid metal snow

So Venus snows metal .. it's so hot that metals melt on the surface then vaporise .. then at higher altitudes( where it is cooler) the metallic mist condenses and the metal snow it produces, falls in part on the mountain peaks . It definitively would glint in the sun just like our snow.

snow flakes have beautiful fractal designs and what a treat for the eye the colourful fractal floral artwork you provided . .. mesmerising.

Your poem is creative , original , enlightening.....

a true delight !

Ciao!

Fanstory ate my reply to this piece a while back, and I was in the middle of moving and work so I'm very sorry it took my 3+ weeks to finally get back to you! This is a truly exceptional review that added more to my piece than I had originally been thinking about when I created it.

The idea of liquid metal I took directly from the snowflake animated GIF itself. Now also, sometimes when snow refreezes into large crystals it can reflect colorful prismic images, but that is distinct from the flakes. Your observation about the weather on Venus however is brilliant, and I had no idea about that, though between the making of this piece and seeing your review I saw a video on Veritasium, and then later on another channel about precipitation like this (I can't find them at the moment though) -- maybe that is where you heard about this too! On some planets apparently precious gems fall as precipitation. We might have a difficult time harvesting them, due to the dense atmosphere condensing on whatever space machines we sent up there, unless they can dodge that weather. But it's a super cool idea. Perhaps we will live long enough to see real images (or at least believable visual modellings) of such phenomenon.

I ought to have promoted this piece when I created it, but have been using most of my member dollars just to enter new contests. Your review has encouraged me to create more interactive pieces like this one, with more complexity. Thank you for that.

SpaceX and NASA have their eyes on Mars because it?s the planet that is most similar to ours .. it?s not as hot as on Venus and from the pics send back the liquid metal phenomenon is not there.

The biggest issues concerning the colonisation of Mars are: how to get a crew there in health conditions.. to get to Mars you need seven month which is a long time for the crew to be without gravity.. when the astronauts return from the ISS they are in no condition to walk and need to train their bodies back to normal standards.

So in some way scientists and engineers have to find a way to create a gravity field on a spaceship

The second crucial problem is water. According to Musk they could nuke the poles which are capped with permanent water ice ( permafrost) .

I don?t promote my work , heck members should be willing to read what others write out of curiosity and not because they earn money .. that?s my take .

If I?m lucky to win some money in a contest that goes to paying a spot in the next contest. No money in piggy bank I just review until I can afford it.. and i never check if what I review has been promoted.

    Ciao!

They found a big water reservoir recently but it is under a ton of soft dust, maybe several or hundreds of meters deep, making it very challenging to reach.

I'm in the same boat as you on reviews. So I do go after the promoted posts when I need to enter contests, because I deliberately enter a lot of things I have no allusions about winning, like every gorilla and banana piece. So when a contest deadline is coming up and I have limited time to get the member bucks to enter, I do tend to skip the longer works these days out of necessity. But it is really fun to find unrecognized works, sometimes written a while back, by authors here out of the limelight. I made an alliterating list of a bunch of them for New Years, which nearly got me banned from this site, and was deleted but I can send it to you if you're interested. Most of the people who were offended were upset that they were NOT included.

I haven?t followed off late the new findings on Mars .. well that s a great step ahead .. water we need.

I was thinking : instead of entering a certain contest with a poem that you know will be disqualified, why don?t you just post that poem out of contest at the same time.

Eg. The contest of the banana and ape you already knew it would not be accepted .. you could have posted it gratis at the same time as the paid contest .. at least two reviews you would have got and the poem is in your portfolio for others in the future to read.

Your banana and gorilla entries are witty ..

Obviously you know who Fossey was .. I remember when I read about Digit and how he died ,I cried so much.

I don?t understand..why did you get nearly banned just because you wrote a poem about less known authors ?

I?m sure the authors would have been glad .. publicity is alway welcomed.

Have you got an e:mail you can share? I? ll write back .

Oh I don't ever join a contest thinking or planning to get disqualified. But, everything I write here is for a contest. The advantage to putting it in the contests is that I get exposure to new readers and reviewers, and I also enjoy a bit of trolling when the contest terms are outrageous (most of the contests I join are). I never write for votes, however, seeing how popular my work is compared to other entires gives me an increasingly better sense of the audience. It's true, I might get more of my existing fans reading though if I published outside contests, as blind contests prevent the publish notifications from going out.

Actually I have never heard of Fossey and Digit. But now I will have to look them up! First though I need to finish my epic tonight for the battle of the presidents contest due at midnight. It's gonna be a wild write.

Fossey spent 20 years studying, befriending and trying to save the forest gorillas in Rwanda. Her favourite gorilla was called Digit. He was killed by poachers. Fossey was murdered by corrupt by a local government official...her crusade to save the gorillas was a problem to those that wanted to make money poaching.

Apparently, often it was the local police that let the poachers in the park for a hefty sum of money.

You can also just freely post a poem that is not in a paid or not contest. You just post it at the same time as the paid contest if the theme is the same.

Here is one video to get you started off.

Thank you so much Sal. If you are willing to share, what is the experience of retina damage lIke? I spend an average of five or ten minutes every day groping around for my glasses. But once I find them things are pretty easy.

So cool, wish I could do that. I couldn't even get the links to click through on my stuff. This is very unique and clever. I think you should win this contest. All the best, Laura.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it. You can learn how to do it too at W3schools. There are lots of free resources but that is an old reliable one. You can even learn to make interactive effects that evolve as the reader scrolls but I have not figured that out quite yet.

I hope your appointment goes well. I do not have the best eyesight, maybe from reading too much as a kid, and laser eye surgery is expensive. Hard to imagine dropping five grand on it. Maybe someday. Thanks so much for your kind review!

Liquid metal snow

Bursting with juicy flavors

In my retina

You are mixing things which don't match to be clever... I don't get it . You have a unique retina. are you sure you don't mean retinue? or routine

Good point. I had just finished writing a poem about food. I have overhauled it. Thank you!

I always wondered about snow blindness until I was driving in pure snow on the way to Idaho one morning. An hour of constant white in my eyes made me pull over for awhile. Not real snow blindness - but I saw the edge of it. Nice work.

Thank you very much! Yes, that is about the extent of snow blindness I have experienced as well.
