Perfect family history shared. No purple passion phrases, no elaboration. The real deal. It's an honest voice that rings true...and so when you shared your dad's poem I had tears in my eyes...

It's amazing how a historical moment can still be shared today with an entirely new generation. What a wonderfully written piece. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Thank you for sharing this with us. My parents were young, but remember Pearl Harbor and I remember them telling us about it, when we were young. I enjoyed reading. This is part of our history not to be forgotten.

A most interesting story and it was good to have the poem from your father at the end. It made it so very meaningful as he was alive at the time, and writing from his heart about the drama unfolding. Well written.

Love the poem your father wrote. I guess you knew that he was a poet back then; too bad that he did not find someone to publish his poems back then. I'm sure they had publishers.

Thank you very much, I knew he was poet ever since I can remember, but I don't know if he pursued getting them published. Terry.

Thanks for sharing this Pearl Harbor moment, and I thought that little poem was quite evocative of the emotions and tensions of that moment. Sadly its kind of being forgotten by the younger generations who have never had to fight a war before. My uncle's best friend, Frizty Fenzel, was on the Maryland when it was bombed. He survived the attack, joined the Navy air corps, and was trained to fly a Grumman Hellcat. He became an ace, shooting down 5 Japanese planes. In July of 1945, one month before the end of the war, he went on a routine patrol with another rookie pilot. They spotted two Japanese planes and he told the other pilot he would check them out, and he wanted the less experienced pilot to circle around and get height and support him from above. When that pilot circled around, all the planes were gone. He got scared and returned to the carrier. They sent out a search party and one pilot said he thought he saw Fritzy's plane in the water, but they had to call off the search because of bad weather. The Navy listed him because of this as missing in action. His mother, a good friend of my grandmother's, waited for him for 20 years, but he never came back. estory

That was a beautiful story and a fabulous poem by your dad. You know, your dad's generation is hailed as "The Greatest Generation", because winning WW2 actually saved Western civilization and Democracy. You should put all of your dad's poems online. Someday, and it's coming soon, the only way to see a WW2 vet is in a photo because they will soon be all gone. All we'll have left of them are photos, memoirs, and poems. Please share your dad's heart with us.

Captivating, compelling, masterfully narrated. As to your publishing your father's poems--heartwarming--a stunning one you share here. Fine work, both of you!
