This is a thoughtful piece, you have put yourself in the minds of the merpeople and written from their point of view. It is very well considered. Well done. X

I watched a series on Netflix about Mermaids and the last stanza just reminded me of that:) "merpeople sigh
absorbing the scene
of a world that
baffles
inhabitants of the sea"

Very nicely written "free verse." The stanzas flow nicely and I can invision your "merpeople." I especially like the stanza:
"feeding gulls
soaking up rays
merpeople wonder why
they come
to the all encompassing
Mother ocean
but do not dwell in her
like the whales, seahorses,
dolphins, goliath grouper"
This artwork adds a nice touch as it appears that the "merpeople" have been walking along the shores of "Mother earth."

Emily Dickinson and Robert Service. Now that is a strange pair. I worked on the waterfront on the coast of Maine for over forty years and only saw very few mermaids. Are they more plentiful down on the Cape?

Tons of mermaids here. But I am sure Maine has some beautiful ones. Thanks for reading and reviewing my mermaid tale and Happy New Year. Elaine

I love this. It makes me think of how humans don't belong in certain environments because all they do is destroy. The imagination is impeccable. I love how it contrasts between humanity and fairy tales. Thanks for sharing.

The mystical works wonders what humans seek. They on the other had have the freedom of the ocean sun sea and waves they have it all. Will wonders ever cease?

I love seeing humans from a mermaid's point of view. They are 'creatures', 'beings who flock...', 'strange beings.. who drown out the surf with loud music. Like the narrator that baffled me too. I hated to see radios on beach blankets.
