This is great that you were able to use so many idiom and to work them into a story. I like you put the meanings at the end even though most of them are self explanitory. I like to know how the started as well. You did tell us how the church mouse one got started.

I heard all these many times while I was a child. My father's favorite was money doesn't grow on trees. I don't know why he said that because his money did grow on trees, he was a fruit farmer. LOL Dad didn't think it was too funny when I told him that. Thanks for this interesting and informative writing.

What a very clever piece of writing with so many idioms in it I am really impressed with the way you managed to get them all in to a story which reads pretty well. UI also liked the fact that you then explained what they all meant in the foot notes. Thank you so much

Hi Jan, I remember all of these sayings. I grew up with them. My mother-in-law said she thought I was a gold digger. Years later she and I became the best of friends and she realized as a Nurse I would make more than her son lol. This is well done, and cool. All the best, Laura.

Hello Jan,
Well done on your post. I had no idea there were so many idioms involving money. Obviously we can't live without it. It seems to be what keeps the world spinning, although I really wish it didn't occupy so much of so many people's thoughts. If money is your heart's desire, there will never be enough. Thanks so much for sharing this informative post.
Have a blessed evening.

This is a clever way to define this large number of common idioms, Jan. There are so many that the involve money. I guess that makes sense since money makes the world go round. We'll done.

This is great. What an addition to the book of idioms. I didn't know there were so many relating to money. It was smart to put them in red. That not only indicates the idioms but brings up another money phrase, "in the red." Not a good place to be, financially. Excellent story, too. Dad was right to put his foot down and tell his son no more money. He used the example of what had happened to his father, who lived beyond his means. I'm glad the boys have resolved to look for jobs. They have to start somewhere. Readers will enjoy this post with all the money references. judi

Wow! These are sayings I grew up with, my parents used them all the time. They must have been invented in the depression, or even earlier. I can remember the definition of being poor, when our bills are $1.05 cents, and we earn only a $1.00, or conversely rich, our bills are $1.00 and we earn $1.05. This is a crackerjack post Jan, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I enjoyed reading. I had a friend, here on FanStory, no longer with us, but this person lived only on social security and struggled paying rent, but continued to pay the Lottery hoping to win big, but of course never did. No talking to this person helped. Anyway, thank you, again.
