I've seen houses painted just like that. I think it was in Raleigh NC. The one I saw was a beautiful Victorian but it looked like it came straight out of a kids' book. You did a great job. Shirley

The colors are as I described--otherwise, I had to fabricate the details; regardless, the story I was told may not even be true. I like the house--my own has four colors, but nothing like those!

I guess he showed them. That would certainly be a house that stood out. I wouldn't mind seeing one like it. It seems the neighbors could have approached him first before going to City Hall.

Vindictive people are usually miserably unhappy people mad at the world for their own misfortunes. Of course, neighbors work hard to maintain their properties and don't want one rundown shack to devalue the neighborhood. However, reporting someone to the authorities pits them as aggressive foes against the defender. Paying a visit to let the defender know neighborhood friends are willing to chip in and help works better. It may be a monetary or health issue. Paint doesn't cost that much, and twenty neighbors could share the work to save backs, or maybe a one-time $100 bill to pay the painter. And possibly, make a lifelong friend, rather than a forever enemy. Yes, there I go again, rambling. LOL. :-)

I knew of such a resident in a town where I went to school. He bought property with three houses, rebuilt them, and intended to subdivide the lot and sell them. Well, the town refused to let him do so. They said it was a historic district.
One day they woke up to discover that the three houses had been painted diarrhea Brown, a sort of 80s maternity pink, and pea soup. The town took him to court.
Well it turns out he had done his research. The three colors were all historical colors.

Love your story!

This is hilarious, Liz. I can imagine something like this actually happening, and I, for one, would much rather see a colourfully painted house bringing some cheer, than one with peeling paint. Great story.

This is funny. Revenge is sweet. I'll bet it brings recognization to the neighborhood. Of course a lot of these older neighborhood have regulations on what updates you can make including the color you can paint your house. If this was such a neighborhood, he could be fined and required to repaint in comliance with rules.

ha! ha! The revenge of a punk artist! What an attitude! I enjoyed the story! It would be nice to have a colour full house like that in an otherwise dull neighbourhood. I would paint it for free. Cheers!

That is hilarious!!!! I'm sure they learned that payback is a bitch. Now that house I would have loved to see. We have a guy in Lake Charles whose entire front lawn is covered with "blasts from the past". He even has one of the Ronald McDonald life sized sitting on a bench.

I loved this neighbour's 'up yours' approach! I enjoy colour, so having this house as my neighbour wouldn't worry me at all. Cute story about revenge on snooty attitudes.

Lol! I'm guessing the purplish paint was on sale? I don't know. I think the owner should be able to paint whatever color they wanted. I know that certain homeowners' associations won't allow it. Cute story!
