The neighbor did as asked but probably not along with the same thought pattern as the rest of the neighbors hoped he would follow. Maybe they will set better rules before they complain...or maybe they will just learn to enjoy.

One guy across the river in Missouri did just like in your story. Painted house, outbuildings, even his boat purple.

That is a great story. They just asked him to paint it and he did. Guess there were no neighbourhood rules at that time to regulate how a house should look. Very well written.

I really enjoyed this Elizabeth. I liked the fact that the gentleman painted his house loud and obnoxious colors. Serves those nosey neighbors right. It was too bad you couldn't find a gaudy painted house for the picture. Very well done and greatly enjoyed.

Good for the neighbor! Of course, if he/she lived in a gated community, the HOA would never agree to the paint scheme. I like your attack on this--first describing the house, then how it came about.

Years ago when I lived in New York a neighbor was harassed for his run down house with eye sore peeling paint...
He hired a crew.
Painted his house Pepto Bismol pink.
Lest we not get the point he added a nameplate to his mailbox.

I guess you're right, you do need to be careful of what you wish for. I agree with one of the other comments about preferring to see a painted house rather than an un-painted one. I'm not sure how I'd react to a similar situation. I have a friend who lives in an HOA community and it's overbearing. I'd rather have the freedom to make my own choices I suppose, although I think an in your face reaction is probably not the best way to go. Well done gal. Entertaining as always.

I'm not sure how I'd react to a similar situation. I have a friend who lives in an HOA community and it's overbearing. I can remember touring Ireland some years ago, and being privileged to notice their well maintained and well painted homes were in colours we would never get away with here, but somehow it suited brilliantly, beautifully written, blessings Roy
