This is a great story of family relationships and how they pull one in all kinds of directions; on one hand, you have hopes and dreams for them, but on the other, also hopes and dreams for yourself and a concept of where they will fit into it. When someone pulls out of your plans, you have to deal with it. I thought your last line really summed up the whole premise. You have to at once be happy for your brother, but also deal with the sadness of not having him in your life. And life goes on. estory

Life is full of these stories. Certain people that we love and want always to have near us have their own dreams and move on, and we get over it and, as you so succinctly end your story, "life goes on." This is a well-written story that many readers will be able to identify with.

Worktrackzilla is the employee screen monitoring software , offering you the most feature-packed time and activity tracker. It helps businesses observe the work of remote employees as if they're just next to you, ensuring they're doing the job you employed them for. It can efficiently manage and monitor your remote employees from anywhere and any time.

You are a great storyteller, weaving light and drama through your story,
-Strong narrative voice, great dialogue and tone,
-But my favourite line, rather thought...or maybe more a sensation, is this line: The quiet had never been more silent than it was in that hole between the question and the answer.
Truly enjoyable writing and story.
Have a nice day.

Life is all about change, experience and feeling the life goes on so, it is explanatory and convincing, memories are enliven here; you don't know what effects what, your younger brother leaves Tioga and happily he joins the military, known on observation; well said, well done; post god speed more; positively encouraging editing, negatively not wording, forgiving errors of theist-good authors-writers. I can share your feelings. Both my brothers went into the Air Force when I was quite young. I was the only one to make it a career, but I still remember the look in my father's eyes when I left for Vietnam. I'm retired now and my son is only two years from retiring from the army. I loved the military and I'm proud of my son following me. But it all seems different today. I'll be glad when he retires. Sorry for rambling, but your story brought back a flood of memories and mixed emotions. I hope your brother found a good life in the army. Thank him for his service for us (my wife is also a vet). Thank you for sharing your story. Stay well

This is an interesting time in your life when you had to have felt abandoned, although your father and mother were still there. From your other stories I know how much you depended on your brother's companionship. Very good writing and your emotions were clearly expressed.

"If I was happier for him then I was sad for me" that line really hit, what a relatable feeling that's so rarely talked about, I enjoyed reading this, thank you for sharing

Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
I can understand how sad that would make you feel. It's awful seeing your loved ones disappear from home to live somewhere you don't. Did your brother get his wish to go into the army? I'm not sure, as a parent, I would want my child to join up at that young age. This was a sad story in a way, sad for you, but happy for your brother. Well done. :)) Good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra

Comment from Jannypan (Jan)
Your contest entry read well and was interesting, Ann. I enjoyed reading it, though it was poignant. Your lines were filled with great imagery about John, the setting, the school, you, and the issue about quitting to move to California. I could visualize everything--what a dilemma. I like the way the last line sums it up.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan
