I think the dog knew he should follow his master and friend. Rumble was a hero that day. Love for a pet is a strong deterrent of unhappiness.
Congratulations on placing third in the contest
Keep writing and stay healthy
Merry Christmas

Yes, indeed fortunate that some plans are not fulfilled. Dogs with their high intelligence are very intuitive, and probably Rumble sensed his master's distress and anxiety. Congratulations on placing, an excellent entry.

Wendy, thanks for taking time to review my entry. Yes, I was happy with the result in a pretty tight contest. Dogs do have an instinct when their human is in trouble. Please take care and have a wonderful festive centre. Cheers Barry.

Great story in just 75 words! And yes, our pets can keep us going when all the world and life in general have us down. It's also that connection of being needed by someone else. Congratulations on your third place prize!

I've overdosed on prescription medications over nine times, beer, liquor, weed smoke, dope smoking, snorting lines. Dog's are alive, inborn instinct to survive. Protecting to the extreme and can alter the heart of humans in need of love, tender care, and inflection. Great storytelling! I tend to send messages, just like you. I make breaks, beats, rhythm and rhymes.Go over to Facebook messenger, sincerely written, Roger Villegas.

Roger, Thanks for taking time to review my entry. The story ran in second which I am happy about. Yes dogs can alter the heart of humans in need of love. They have an instinct beyond us mere humans. Noticed you are really new to the site. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Barry,
Excellent. I know how difficult trying to write something that makes sense in this few words, but you accomplished it. We can't know the rest of the story about why he wanted to commit suicide, but we are glad he didn't and loved the dog because he prevented it.

Very nicely done in a very short piece. I wonder how many suicides could have been prevented by some odd intervention. This should do quite well in the contest.

Paul, thanks for taking the time to review my entry. Yes I am sure there are many odd interventions that do prevent suicides. Dogs have no doubt played a part in many.
The story came in second which I am obviously happy about. Please take care and have a happy and safe Christmas period.

This is an excellent story for a 75 word flash fiction--or a 200 word for that matter. I imagine that untold lives have been saved by the mere presence of a beloved animal. Nicely done. Good luck in the contest.

Hand-counted seventy-five words so meets that requirement of the contest.
No nits or spags noticed.
Have always said a good dog makes better people than most of the two-legged species could ever hope to be.
Apparently, "Rumble" is no different.
