Not a anti-mask story.

This story, I Didn't Wear the Mask, is one that concerns what we are learning is a widespread problem that is coming to light as women and men reveal their horrid ordeals when younger. Important.

Hi Laura, my heart goes out to you sweet girl...I'm so sorry...I can't even imagine what that felt like not to be believed...in the end we all face a judgement day...everything done....will be graded by God...and He will have the last word...

my sister was raped in high school...she never told anyone but me...it was 3o years before she told my mother...and I lived it with her...sigh...

I know as Christians we have to forgive...but sometimes...
that's easier said than done...

your story is very well written...and I can see why you won...picture speaks for itself...CONGRATULATIONS...love you...Linda xxoo

Forgive me for not reading this. Life has been nuts.

Such a deep and moving story. I can see why it won a blue ribbon. Congratulations, Laura. A story I've heard much too often.

Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs...

The sexual assault stats are getting better but that's no comfort. When I first started working with battered women it was 8 out of 10. I reported at least 4 cases of girls who acted like or said things that just didn't fit and all were helped away from sexual abuse. In one case another girl child had disappeared and was never found when her sister pointed out an uncle. You are so right: Why would a child lie?

Signs of abuse are not always easy to recognize. Someone who has experienced, or is experiencing, abuse could show a number of signs that indicate something is wrong, but abuse may be happening even if there are no outward signs. (I'm thinking of the young woman who just lost her life to domestic abuse.)

This is a very good entry. It is true that many young women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Unfortunately, sometimes your best friends don't believe you. Many young children will also be abused. We tell them to tell an adult but what if that adult won't believe them. Especially, their own mother doesn't believe you and it's happening right underneath her nose!
Good luck!
Patty

Yipes, you were right this is not an anti-vax story at all but something more troubling and deeper. You started the sentence all right! I should've known by the picture but my curiosity got the better of me. This is sad and not the kind of issue I want to read about this early in the morning. I will forgive you because it was my fault for reading this.
Have an unusually interestingly day,
Jesse

Just impactful and at the same time tragic. This is a subject , along with others in the same categories that I spend life writing about...often.
I like the contrast between mask wearing and the attachment to theme.
One day, I hope we will not need to write of this subject as certainly we do now. That is wishful thinking.
Good luck with this.
Bravo.
My best wishes.
Have a great Sunday.
My best.

Well written entry for the Sentence contest. An original and fresh take on mask-wearing, and you have written a compelling short story. I can understand your distress at not being believed! Best wishes for your entry.
