Wow! I'm standing at my desk in front of your poem, and I'm FREEZING! Been there back in the day.... Good details. Good rhymes. Good humor. Not easy to put all that together and succeed so well!

Thank you so much, Richard, for the marvelous review of my poem. Fortunately, it has not gotten that cold around here yet. Rod

Nicely done Rod.
I enjoyed reading through. Nice and formal, the stanzas transition nicely. Almost a story poem, the imagery is abundant. I almost got colder reading it, and that is saying something.
Well done.
Best wishes.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. I could visualize the words you wrote. You did a great job with descriptions. Texas actually got hit last winter with freezing cold weather. Rarely does that happen.

Thank you, Barbara, for sharing my poem and your kind praise. I remember Texas getting hit last winter and sure hope that doesn't happen again. Rod

Brrr! indeed! You have written a great one for this contest. Your poem is skillfully-written and vividly descriptive of DANGEROUS cold. I live in Mississippi. We think we're going to freeze to death if temps are in the twenties three days in a row!

Thank you so much, Janice, for your high praise of my poem. I live in Chicago, and envy Mississippi's temperate weather in the winter. I don't envy you during the hurricane season, however. Rod

This was a fine ice-cold pom and so fitting for the contest.
I found some seed, the feeder's full.
Yet bird bath's still a block of ice
a steaming kettle couldn't melt
despite my filling, pouring twice. [I'm glad you set this stanza off. I liked it.]

I am so pleased you like my poem and the way I set off that one stanza. Many thanks for your kind praise, amahra.

That's really a shock when record lows happen "beyond Missouri, Tennessee." It's good that you had a working heater. I especially liked your compassion for the birds! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you, lyenochka, for sharing my poem. My birds may eat me out of house and home again this winter. Rod

You hit a lot of things to do and worry about the freezing weather. The only thing I would have liked to see was you making sure that you brought the dog in. Great job! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good luck!

What a lovely poem - in presentation, in theme and structure, and also in smooth rhyme and metre. At the same time you tell a story of compassion for the poor birds. Best wishes for your excellent entry.

It's nearing this kind of weather for sure in our country. Some like to go skiing, sliding, snowboarding, and ice fishing. I think they stay inside when the weather is frigid. No one likes frozen fingers.

This poem, Frozen in the Heartland, depicts some super cold weather, which is braved for the sake of seeing after the wild birds. That's a bit nuts.
