Scott goes to his upstate cabin every Saturday and returns Sunday night. He's going to lock the door of his house and get out of Dodge! We shall see what ensues.

Kudos to you for getting so much information in one sentence. Scott needs to ask Mrs. Barr of he can spend the night in her 3 bedroom house! Is Scott someone you know?

Scott is a friend I visit once or twice a week. You've been away for awhile--I post stories about him nearly every day!

Hi Liz,
Poor Scotty gets to sleep downstairs on an uncomfortable cot while giving up his normal sleeping quarters to Janice. Thanks so much, Mrs. Barr. She has two free bedrooms, but obviously is no relation to Good King Wenceslas.
Tell your buddy, Scott...
"Ye, who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing."
Nice story! And timely, too, with winter and Christmas coming right around the corner.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Sorry to say the gist is true--I fudged the fluff, as to his provisions. The woman is still there, making herself comfy. Mrs. Barr stays afar! Alas, her spare bedrooms have "stuff" in them.

How does it finish. Such a great poem Elizabeth. Sucks you into the plot line immediately. Wish you the best in your future writing.

Yours Truly,

Wow, Mrs. Barr has some nerve! I am amazed at how casually some people offer the services of another without asking OR offering the service they are perfectly capable of handling themselves. A star just dropped out of that lady's crown!

My goodness doesn't she know the rule about guests and fish? They both stink after several days!

Ha, what a bust!
Mrs. Barr is so helpful! What a great Christian Lady?
Kudos to people like Scott, who have little but nevertheless, share what they have.
Am appalled by the number of homeless, nop one seems to have a viable solution.
Great story,
irish

Nice story. I do have a recommendation concerning unneeded words. Check on words such as that and has. Read the sentence aloud and then mentally remove the word and read it aloud again. If it sounds good to your ears then the word is not needed. I hope this helps. Have a great day. Shirley

So true--I cut out three THATs and reworked a few sentences for concision. And now I'll rereread it to see if I can trim more!

Very well done story. Charity by proxy, indeed. Poor Scott will be camping out again is my guess and Mrs. Barr will be feeling warm inside in her oversized house!

Mrs. Barr exemplifies the thinking of the elites. They are so touched by the plight of migrants and other disadvantaged, but would they take them in? No, it's up to government to provide housing and living expenses. She probably didn't even give a thought to taking that woman in. The more I read about Scott, the more he grows in my esteem. Taking in strangers and cleaning the church bathroom is above and beyond. Surely the church could provide lists of shelters that would have provided a bed for the night. judi

Liz,

Ain't that the way? Oh, yeah - we all know how to point to someone ELSE who can help out. Sure! But when it comes to doing the helping ourselves??? WHAT?! Oh, wait... There's that hangnail thing.

That's crazy! He's such a good guy!
