I'm so glad you clarified what wellies were. I thought they were those short socks that always slide over the back of your heels. but "I like the boots!!! lol great fun!!

Hi Deb,
I enjoyed your fun poem. Never heard of the term, "wellies". We just called them rubber boots, or rain boots. But I remember wearing them, or winter boots that were a close relative. My socks always gathered in the toe. It left my foot red from cold of winter. Your solution is terrific ...for girls. Not so much for me, though!
My favorite lines,
"The more you will them to stay up,
the further they retreat."
Nicely penned! So glad to see you posting once again!
Hugs,
Kimbob

I just got home from a trip and had to wear my UGGs. Boots are so different for those of us who live in the tropics. I think I have a rash. I miss my flip-flops. I enjoyed your fun poem about your wellies. Sending along my very best to you and yours as always, Sally XOs

Ha ha ha, this is hilarious Debra and I so agree, I have boots that do the same and it is so uncomfortable to have socks disappear under your foot! A fun well rhymed write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Lol! How appropriate for this very rainy day. I just wear athletic shoes which are waterproofed. You've given me great advice not to wear those wellies! Fun poem!

Don't worry about late replies, Debra. I'm often late with my replies!
How is your husband doing? Fully recovered now?
-
Hi Helen 😊 He is starting back at work on Wednesday on a phased return, so just mornings to start off with to see how he goes. His energy is coming back slowly?
Thank you so much for thinking of him x

Glad to hear. What a long recovery! 💖🙏

Debra,
This is a delightfully funny poem. "Wellies" is a British term, but I recognized it from a previous post I read here. Believe me, they aren't the only culprits. The felt liners in Sorels can do the same thing. Glad to see you posting!

Debra,
Never worry about a timely response, or a response at all. We all have lives outside of FanStory and sometimes we either get busy, or just need a break from this place.

Lovely short rhymed poem, Debra. The rhymes do not seem forced. Your poem flows well. It draws on emotions and it presents strong images.

The blessed departed Queen always wore wellies outside, but sock eaters make for uncomfortable walking. This is clever and fun and the picture is darling! This is a great pesentation.

Debra,
What a fun poem! As soon as I read the title, I knew what the scansion and meter would probably be and I was geared up for it. hahaha You did not disappoint! What a fun post! Only a tiny note to help in one place, I think....
than socks ascrunch around your toes
--> than socks ascrunch(ed) your toes
--> to stick to the syllable count
But you are welcome to ignore me, of course!
Thanks for the smile!

So true! It is maddening. I cannot fathom why this happens--you nailed it here in wry humor. As to pantyhose--alas, my feet chafe without socks as a buffer.
