Bothersome? Yes, as to your writing "they choose by not choosing?" Know that to be true but how often do we give thought to it. My favorite line herein is "the little stone in your shoe and the kiss of fear on the nape of your neck." I sometimes think those little sins I think no one knows of have my people that passed on viewing everything little thing I have done, and if that isn't enough, I feel the only people at the Bar of Justice in heaven in He the Magnificent and Me, as my defense counsel. Sadly, though how can I lie when my memories survives and He as prosecutor has access to every perverted work or words I've spoken.

So true, Tom. We believers struggle with what appears to be a conundrum: Forgiveness of sins and memory of same sins. St. Paul tells us to understand the duality and face forward to Christ knowing we are JUSTIFIDE by the cross but not yet fully SANTIFIED but are BEING sanctified. Knowing I have no defense but for Christ, I try to live humbly accepting St. Paul's words: "...it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me." Romans 7:17

    All the best, Yard.

The life to be will be a process. Not much different than mortality save the temptations will likely no longer be.

An unusual write with the horrors of Halloween on hold just now if we choose the right path, a faithful and intensely moving write, much enjoyed, and congratulations of your worthy win too, love Dolly x

Oooh, creepy much! Love the word choices. The imagery freaks me out. Excellent writing. You build this to a frightening, monstrous climax blending truth and horror. Congratulations on the win.

Wow. At first I wasn't sure where the story was going. Then I wasn't sure who was the narrator. Then bam, you call out the reader for self denial and much indulged cowardice. This work is eerie and conscious twinging. Well Written, Well Done.

There is a lot of talk bout how horrible we humans are and to be honest, we are. This piece sets up the suggestion that fear and pain are coming to haunt you.

I have so many reasons to love this story, mainly because I believe it offers the reader the challenge of considering life after death.

In the case of accepting Christ or not as one's Savior, the following is a powerfully true statement: 'After all, in a hushed way, everyone knows one can't choose to not choose, yet who wants to admit they choose by not choosing?'

So true these days, it seems: 'You like toys to keep busy and mute the voice of personal accountability.'

I chuckled at the imagery of this creatively expressed line: 'You are standing bare-ass naked in a world that is as dead as a grapevine in the Sahara Desert.'

Yes, the prince of this world, Satan (and his demons) does indeed do what your story claims: 'I stir your heart to boil up hatred that births words of destruction that shoot from your tongue like fiery darts intending to destroy that which is innocent and good. I stimulate your loins with the salve of lust to debase yourself with others. It is I, who has been the shadow behind your cowardice, guilt, and the energy that blinds you with pride!'

I love this powerful statement and wonder if these few lines have other readers stopping to contemplate: 'Why He sacrificed Himself for you is beyond us. He could have had this whole world and the riches in it, but no, He wanted your whimpering ass and look what it got Him, dead on a cross.'

I love this too in that the Truth lies here and perhaps once again the reader may pause to think about their reality of 'choice'. 'Denial means death. Not just in the ground death, but into MY hand's death. Still, we didn't make up that rule; only God could come up with such logic and consequence, but we're sure as hell gonna use it.'

Not choosing is a horror story for sure, for life after death will be a life forever separated from God. That is not life.

Awesome job!!!

Thank you CG, your insight and review is very much appreciated. You have understood the point of denial. I hope others come to understand that in this world there is but one thing they must do: Choose.

Full disclosure: I'm not a Halloween fan. That said I did like eternal life in the fast lane and a long hot ride. You were also able to write without using the word devil. The notion doing whatever you want, anything was good because 'anything' did not include love and joy. Dead giveaway. Interesting read.

Thank you, Annette, I too, am not a Halloween fan. I think it is at best laughable. I do, however, believe evil is very real and is closer than we think. Thanks again, your insight and review are very much appreciated.

Oh I totally believe in evil. I was married to a man who was losing his battle with evil on a daily basis. Presently happy and joyful without him.

This seems to be really out there. It appears that something or someone (I'm guessing the Devil) is trying to convince the reader to give his/her soul up to them. Good luck with the contest.

Yikes and Yowzers. This gave me the chills and the creeps. Prerequisite for a Halloween write I'd say! Nice touch, addressing this to the "dear reader"--and your ending in bold raised the hair on the back of my neck. I'm voting for this one... Because I'm afraid. I'm very afraid!
