Mama Baer,
This poem shows how phobias can cause you to miss fun adventures. I can understand how an event like that can cause the fear. I like how the words about swimming are bolded in blue.
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

Congratulations on winning the contest, Mama Baer. My mother, too, had a phobia of the water. It's a tough one to shake! (Pun intended ;)
Well done and write on,

Oh, thank you for your comforting words, Lana. Kind of hard to face up to our phobias and put them out there. I totally relate to your mom. And thanks for the pun! ;)

Ciao mystery poet, you have 11 votes now.
When I was about 10 some kids for fun pulled me under in a swimming pool .. I went berserk , I freaked out and from then on I just kept my distance from water.
I hate also anything that covers my head and body .. it feels like I'm buried alive.

Oh, gracias! Thank you for your vote and kind review. Phobias are the worst, and I completely agree! Sometimes kids will roll up in a blanket and trap the other child--that happened to me once and I freaked, too! We will both keep our heads above water. :)

This is an awesome entry for the contest! You really did good. I love how you highlighted in water-blue all the words associated with water and the fear of water. I enjoyed also the overall presentation 'reflecting' (LOL) water. You told a complete story in your free-verse and your fear of water was exceptionally expressed.

Thank you so much for your kind, encouraging, and "reflective" review! This was my first try at free verse. I think I am beginning to catch on to that poetry form. Thank you for taking the time to read!

LOL :). You are a natural, dear lady. Hope to see more!

We all have phobias...things that frighten us and won't let go. They make us try again, but sometimes we just give up and 'sit on the shore'. Bummer, bummer, bummer. Very well worded poetry. Thanks.

Bummer, indeed! Thank you for taking the time to read about my woes, and for your kind review!

I understand your fear of water because I missed out on swimming in camp and I still can't swim. You do a good job of telling your story and showing how the fear can carry on into the future. Good luck.

Thank you Carol--so glad you can empathize. It really is a regret of mine. They say it is never too late to learn something new, but I do not see how I can overcome that fear! Thanks for reading and for your kind review.
