I don't give many "sixes" but this just a stunning little piece. It packs so much in with so few words. I true life lesson on meditation and achieving balance in most hectic lives. "An empty vessel on troubled waters" -love this line. Once again the presentation is stunning.

Debra,

Your dabbling in this little prose piece is evidence that poetry can reside within prose. You have successfully captured the mood and left the reader with a hollow, untethered feeling.

Hello, Debra,

Excellent entry for the Boat event in Ekphrastic Prose Club--Writing About Art challenge.

I write ekphrastic poems all the time. It's a great form of inspiration. Well done!

I think we all need time alone to think away from the demands of life and I use my time in the park running to put the world to rights and make all my decisions, you did it on a boat on the ocean here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Those dabbling moments where we step outside our comfort zones are the secret to reaching down deep and pulling out something we didn't know was there. This even relaxed me, the reader. Thanks for sharing.

-You did a good job
with the challenge, Debra.
-I like your story, imagery,
and the mood you create.
-I think many of us can
relate to the feelings in
the opening paragraph.
-I like the imagery in
the second paragraph.
-A very good ending, too.

You should dabble more in prose! Excellent little short for the prompt, Debra dear. Emotionally deep and introspective. The need for solace is understood.

Sending you my best today as always, and blessings for the day,
Sal XOs

Hi Debra,
I can visualize you out there in the boat. You feel alone and overwhelmed. Tired. You aren't even paddling. You're just allowing the current to move you. I can hear the waves slapping the sides, paddles flapping up and down. It's a terrific metaphor for how you feel after slugging it out with this miserable virus. You could have handled it better had it just been you. But the virus attacked everyone, your whole family. You were at its mercy, like the drifting boat in the middle of the lake... pushed around.
But you know what I think? I think you won. Sure, you're tired. You worry about your husband getting back to good health. But you beat this wicked virus. Your whole family faced it head on, and beat it. I'd rename your poem... Afloat.
I commend you, and your whole family. You're tough. You're all heroes in my book.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Debra,

Oh, wow! Very cool, sweetie pie!

I love the fact that at the end, the readers can't be sure if you are referring to the boat as 'empty' or yourself! That's awesome!

I also believe that getting away from it all is something we can all relate to at the moment. Very cool. Thanks and great job!
