I like the differences in belief in these two gentlemen, not that uncommon I suppose. I like the surprise ending of the television being muted, clever. Excellent writing here that held my interest and is a human story.

Thanks for stopping by! The gist of this story is true--I made up the part about muting the TV. Scott is unconventional for sure.

A very nice story. Thanks for writing it. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the little things. They may one day be big things. Smile, others will too.

Is it Chuck or Scott who is the board member?
I'm kinda with Scott. Who would do that?
I think I wouldn't mind hanging out with Scott.
A good read.

It is ironic that Scott is on the board!
Scott is unconventional for sure. He and I are in accord, despite my aversion to worshipping God--there is no possible "explanation" that would satisfy me. I'm glad you get it. Thanks for stopping by.

I can empathise with with Scott. In case I ever get a chance to meet God ,I have hundred questions to ask.
I am a spiritual person and I hate to use the word 'religious' .I dont like preaching 'guru's and people who try to initiate me into their 'loving laps of their Gurus.
I believe that religion is personal and a person's relationship wit God is very private. For me He is like a Psychiatrist who does not have to be paid. I talk to him whenever I feel like and it kind of confort me
I lliked this post very much .******(since you had said you dislike being the line 'i have run out of my sixes '

Chuck and Scott made me smile. Both had their own thoughts on God, but one accepted everything, while the other questioned. I can understand both men, when we look at what is happening in the world to the vulnerable and the innocents, we do wonder why. This was a great post, Liz, and you wrote it in a fun way, yet made us all think about the two men and their views. Well done! :)) Sandra x

I can understand Scott's dilemma and his point of view. Half the people on this planet can relate to him irrespective of their religious leanings. I think he firmly believes in the motto 'Work is worship'. and does yeoman service to the church. I'm sure he has a place reserved in heaven! I enjoyed this interesting post. Cheers!

I can relate to Scott. I try to be a good Christian, but I don't see the need to attend church services and listen to sermons. I wouldn't appreciate Chuck's attempts either. You've explained this well, with a bit of humor.

LOL Poor Scott. Subterfuge while dealing with a Christian who wants to enlighten him. Your story had me smiling and shaking my head. It reminded of our churches retired priest that I loved. He always said. Show by doing and not telling. He said people will watch you versus listen to you. Especially, if your words do not correspond with your actions.

Hi Liz,
Another interesting and thought provoking post. One wonders how many times the scenario you've shown has played out in history. The disciples who walked with Jesus had their own ideas of how he should act, but he usually baffled people because he didn't do what they thought he should do. At the same time he delighted those who seemed far from God, for example calling Zacchaeus the despised tax collector to come down from a tree so that Jesus could stay at his house. It changed the life of the tax collector. People respond better to what they see than what they hear. I hope that in time Scott changes his feelings about God, but one way or another, the God who created the entire universe can most certainly move his heart. It might take a gentle whisper, or a not so subtle experience. He doesn't need help from anyone, regardless of their good intentions. People can't change people, but God can.
Have a blessed day Liz.
