It's so hard to love a pet. Over the years, I have had too many of those occasions. I know about the tail. I had Great Danes, and their tails are lethal, too. But it doesn't matter, does it? We love everything about them, even the bruises. lol

I enjoyed your contest entry on your awesome dogs. I like how you included where the names came from. Your words are descriptive, there's good flow, and I could see everything you wrote. Love the picture, too.
Best wishes in the contest.

Respectfully, Jan

My heart breaks for you. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. They are family. As I'm sure you know, there's a place in the heart where they will always live. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much. It has been a rough few days, but the contest was fortuitous for me to briefly tell the story.

Oh dear what a shame for this. It would had also broken my heart. A person can never keep what or who they love forever. Death is cruel. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. He was special. We have two more dogs to watch over us, but they are also hurting for now.

What do you mean you have 2 more dogs that are hurting why? You are welcome.

I just mean they are grieving. Freyja is a 100 lbs malamute hybrid. She was nine months old when we got Duren and she practically adopted him. She's always been very protective of him, even when he was 100 lbs himself. We have a 1-year-old plothound that also bonded closely with Duren. In fact, I've never seen two male dogs so close. He always cuddled with Duren and Duren would clean his ears like a momma. Doesn't help that our two ducks imprinted on Duren as well. When they were ducklings, Duren would constantly lay by their cage or watch them swim in the tub. As full grown ducks, they would follow Duren around everywhere. Wouldn't even get into the creek until Duren went first. We started calling him Duck Daddy. He was a special guy.

This is lovely. I would have liked to hear more about the dogs and their activities. Each sounded magnificent in his own right. Beginning with the poem was a nice setup but it didn't leave much room to tell about the character and personality of or your relationship with each animal. I miss that.

I agree, and I'm sure I will share more about him in the future. But I only had 300 words to express my feelings for this contest. It called me to briefly share Durendal's story.

What a lovely story about your dogs and your choosing to name them after characters in the Song of Roland. Their crossing of the rainbow bridge is always so heartbreaking. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you. We have two more dogs that are also hurting right now, but they are resilient.

I'm sorry for the loss of all your dogs. My neighbor had a boxer, but I could never get close to it, even though I wanted to love on it. It was skittish. When we lose our pets, we lose a member of our family. Good luck in the contest.
Blessings
Tom

Thank you. Boxers are special dogs, but they can be mistrusting of strangers. In time I'm sure your neighbor's dog would have accepted you.
