Cute! I could see this in a children's book of poetry. Voice is strong, which can be tricky with such a short form. Great job! And good luck in the contest!

Wow, what a story, and it is true, by golly! I hope you win the contest first of all and I love Spiffy in your photo looking scared and not ready for the bath of a lifetime! The poem was good but what I loved best were the author's notes that detailed you and Spiffy's life together including a short time with your husband as well! What an amazing story and the best of it is, Spiffy began to like her baths whether at the groomer's or at home!! Thank you so much for posting this!

Your poem reminded me of our precious dog, Gesi, a German Shepherd who believed she was human. We lost her to stomach tumours after nine years but I remember well bath times. Fortunately our bathroom was right next to our laundry. I would open the back door ready, put towels down, empty the bath then let her go and hope she made it into the garden before the shaking began! Thanks for sharing, Franky

You know exactly what I mean, with the water shaking all over. It's really something! I'm sorry you only had nine years with Gesi. The good memories are a blessing. I don?t think she seriously thought she would drown, but I do wonder if it could be a primal instinct that drives dogs in their general aversion to bathing -- although there are some breeds that really love the water, and will readily go swimming in it.
