I Hate Baths

My dog, Spiffy, did not enjoy getting bathed.

The problem with unwanted baths is that if the distance between baths is extremely long, odor and cooties may play a very large part. No one wants to sniff someone whos body is stinky. So do the world a favor and bathe regularly please.

Haha, I never said that I myself hated the baths. It was my dog, Spiffy!
And in the case of a dog, it is not her decision about when to have a bath. It is the decision of her human owners, originally, me, and later, both my husband and me.
Thank you, my friend, for reading and reviewing.

I am aware of all that you stated, I was just having a little fun with my comments. Your story brought out the silliness in me. Good write.

I think I suspected as much! Nevertheless, I'm happy to know that. It's good to see your silly side. No offense taken! And thank you.

Spiffy reminds me of the first dog we ever owned, Susie was a stray, she turned up at the school were my wife was teaching, she raided the bins at school, she was only four months old, covered in fleas, mange, but she lived till she was 16, gave us those glorious years, God sent us many strays, dogs and cats just to bless us. Beautifully written my friend, good luck, blessings Roy

Thanks Roy for a wonderful review, and for telling your story of Susie. Mange is very scary, but obviously you all, and Susie, survived it.
Spiffy came, unbeknownst to me, with whipworms, a nasty parasite. Over the years she had both fleas and ticks, all of which we survived and overcame, thanks be to God.
Thank you so much for your beautiful review. It's always great to know other animal lovers. It's a blessing that you cared for so many of God's sweet creatures!

Ha ha ha, dogs hate to take a bath, but sometimes it is necessary as they roll about in the dirt and then expect to sleep on our sofa! Much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Yes, that's very true. Spiffy actually stayed fairly clean; we didn't have a yard, and I walked her on a leash, so there wasn't much opportunity for dirt-rolling, but I've seen dogs do that! I would know she needed a bath when she started smelling dusty, like a vacuum cleaner. Otherwise, she had an amazingly clean, fresh scent, for a dog -- some dogs, in contrast, have a strong, musky odor.
My next-door neighbor would sometimes remark on how clean she looked; it was just her natural appearance. And she was a very pretty dog.
Thanks so much for the nice review, Dolly. I'm so glad you enjoyed this!

Haha. Poor spiffy. I hope she will behave next time. It seems to be a messy business to get her clean. I don't know how to train a dog to like a bath. Maybe you should give her a treat when she is well behaved.

Well done.

Thank you very much, Lisa. Sadly, Spiffy has gone to her eternal rest. Her soul may be at the "rainbow bridge" but her ashes are resting with those of other dogs and cats. I'd like to think that Heaven will reunite us with our pets someday, but I don't know for sure ... at least she will never have to endure another bath! We miss our sweet girl. I don't think I ever tried bribing her with treats, as the whole process was so chaotic and involved, but if we ever get another dog, that's a great idea. Tha

LOL your writing prompt entry is adorable. I'm sure partly because I am an animal, especially dog, lover and have had similar experiences bathing them. lol Thank you for sharing and good luck.

Hi Barbara, thanks for a great review. I'm so happy you could relate to my post, and it's interesting, but not at all surprising that you've had similar experiences. Dogs everywhere have similar DNA, lol! Thanks for your kind and generous words.

I do think you got it right for the contest, 5-7-5, check, entailed an animal, check, good play on words, check. good job and good luck on the contest. I must say your background story on Spiffy is very good, maybe you should enter that in a remembrance contest.

At the height of a stupidity warp, I decided to bathe my cat, Chico - I will never recover and Chico never had a bath! You have written this sweet story in just a few well-chosen words. This should do well in the contest.

Thank you so much for this fine review, and also for sharing your own funny story about trying to bathe a cat. If I'm not mistaken, they bathe themselves, don't they?
I appreciate your kind review and the five stars. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is awesome and and compliments both the words and theme of this poem.

What a sweetie Spiffy was for you. I enjoyed reading your great contest entry, Mystery Author. You captured her feelings about the bath perfectly. The notes are awesome, too. I could see her doing everything you wrote.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully Jan

It's true, some dogs really dislike taking baths. I've been lucky because none of my dogs seemed to mind. My little Sheltie was a prince. After I'd rinsed him I'd close the shower curtain and said, "shake!" He'd shake every time I said it and when I thought it was enough, I'd get him out and dry him off. I really miss him.

Thank you, Mary, for your kind review, the five stars and for sharing your story. It's interesting -- occasionally Spiffy would "shake" on command, but it was when she had gotten drenched in the rain. It's great that your Sheltie did that in the tub! What an easygoing and obedient dog! Spiffy would obey, when she wanted to, lol. I miss her, just the same. Thanks again for sharing.
