Absolutely meets all of the contest rules!! Very well done and I love the look in the dog's eyes. I think they say as much as the words do. Good job and fun, short read. ann

While this contest is over, I'm so glad you enjoyed my poem, and I know from reading your work that you're an animal lover! Yes, I had some wonderful times with Spiffy, and both Jorge and I were grateful for her.
Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

Thank you for sharing a "Spiffy story." That's a cute picture and poem. I always thought dogs loved baths. I thought only cats hated baths but some cats even love playing with water.

Thank you so much for this beautiful and fun review, Helen! I guess "cat people" and "dog people" can have some misconceptions about one another, and about our respective pets, too. There are so many more Spiffy stories where this came from, hahaha!
Yes, I knew a cat who loved water, although I don't know if she (or he) loved getting wet. I had rescued this kitty from the street when she was about 3/4 grown, and I gave her to a gentleman with whom I shared a boarding house for a short time. She would climb up on the kitchen sink, and intently stare into the drain area, as pieces of food circled around, and it almost looked like "Smokey" was going fishing.
Smokey was a Russian Blue, really beautiful, and would occasionally visit me in my room. Bringing her home on the subway and a taxi, to this elderly man, in a shopping bag, was quite a trip!
Hugs to you, my friend, and blessings, Mary Kay xoxo

I like the look on this poor dog anticipating getting a bath. I like the bath towels and the hose pipe with one leg of the dog in it. I think that you deserve a prize but then there are others who can write better. The thing is that people read what you write and get the recognition. Thanks for sharing, Kit.

Hi Kit, yes, many people thought this photo was before Spiffy's bath, but it was actually while they were drying her off, and that look you see? She couldn't wait to be free!
It's always nice to win the prize, but if we do our best, that's what matters. There were many clever poems in this contest. It wasn't the best example of my poetry, but I tried, and I had fun sharing about Spiffy's bath experiences. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Blessings, Mary Kay

Yes, I agree with you. We cannot win all the time but let us do our best to show our talents and glorify God, Kit.

Raising a dog isn't much different than raising a child. Sometimes, it is more rewarding... the dog won't say anything that hurts your feelings but humans can.
A simple poem like this one shows "love and caring." Bathing a dog is a kind of love and caring.
Well written poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your beautiful review, Goodadvicechan. Yes, Spiffy did become somewhat like a child for me, and even my husband Jorge. Sometimes I would jokingly complain that I couldn't claim her as a deduction on income taxes. It was expensive, especially vet care, and I even had to move out of my original apartment, because my lease didn't allow pets (I mistakenly thought my landlord would overlook it, as he did with other tenants) -- it cost extra money in the next apartment, but I couldn't bring myself to give her up!
Thank you for seeing the love at the heart of this poem. May God bless you.

Thanks very much, Anne-Marie, for this kind review. I'm so happy you enjoyed reading my post. You can clearly relate to what I have described, since your doggy also hates baths. I think it must be in their DNA. Lol. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Thank you, Livia, for a beautiful review. I'm happy that you love Spiffy and my poem! I wish she were still around, to keep loving her and having more fun together, but she did live to be about 17 years old, which I am grateful for. Thanks so much for your good wishes, be blessed!

How sweet your puppy looks in the picture. My Pekinese did that very same thing and it didn't take me long to find a groomer. He liked the groomer (she always gave him homemade doggie treats after they were finished with his bath and haircut. Good luck with the contest.

Hi Patty, thank you for your lovely review. Yes, Spiffy was a sweet and adorable doggy, I still miss her. Giving your Pekingese homemade treats was a great idea, on the part of the groomer! I appreciate your sharing.

Thank you very much, Writer723, for your wonderful review of my poem, and your thoughtful comments about my notes. I am really touched by what you wrote about both the scenario I described, and my writing skills, generally. It isn't often that one receives this type of encouragement, which makes it that much more meaningful. Thank you for reading and reviewing.

Great little poem for the contest. I think you have the makings of a non fiction story in your author's notes... So many of us have wonderful memories of our pets, I bet it would be well recieved!

Hi, Karenina. I hope you're feeling much better.
Thanks so much for your beautiful, encouraging review! Yes, it's true, there are many pet owners on this site, former pet owners and past/present ones as well. I'm happy that you enjoyed my Spiffy story as well as the poem. Your picture is lovely. I once had a sweater in a similar shade -- so cheerful. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
