Hi Helen, I didn't know of Portia's surgery! I'm sorry I missed this, until I contacted Portia myself, because I was concerned about her. I was wondering whether there was something amiss (other than the problems she normally deals with). Thank you for writing this beautiful poem for our beautiful friend and sister in Christ.

    Thank you so much, Mary Kay! Her surgery on Friday went well. We're praying that the growth is not cancerous. Her cousin is helping her out this week. So thankful for good friends and relatives who come to help in times of need! Hugs!

    Yes, that sure is a blessing -- much as she is, herself! We'll continue to pray for healing and for good results. I'm so thankful for her, for you and for, as you said, all good friends from the Lord.
    Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

Hi Helen,
Years ago, when I was leading the Youth Choir at church, and always looking for new contemporary Christian music, I borrowed the music of Neil Young's song, "Heart of Gold". And I set the words of an old hymn to it, "I Need Jesus".

1. "I need Jesus, my need I now confess;
No friend like Him in times of deep distress;
I need Jesus, the need I gladly own;
Though some may bear their load alone,
Yet I need Jesus."

2 "I need Jesus, I need a friend like Him,
A friend to guide when paths of life are dim;
I need Jesus, when foes my soul assail;
Alone I know I can but fail,
So I need Jesus."

3. "I need Jesus, I need Him to the end;
No one like Him, He is the sinner's friend;
I need Jesus, no other friend will do;
So constant, kind, so strong and true,
Yes, I need Jesus."
************************************************************
Of course, I changed a couple of words here and there. But it went over well with the congregation.
I admire you for holding so many Fanstorians up in prayer, and making us aware of those who need prayer. Every prayer is important, because "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
*********************************************************************
"In daily giving loving (care)
Her heart lifts more than most can bear
Converting troubles into prayer
Because she knows that our God (cares)"
A slight suggestion to avoid using "care" twice...
(In daily giving loving care
Her heart lifts more than most can bear
Converting troubles into prayer
Because she knows that God is there) ... "God is there" reminds me of a song by Dallas Holm, "He Is There". The song got me through some rough waters when I was younger. Perhaps I'll tell you about it sometime. Here's a link to the song:

*************************************************************
"She helps the others though she's ill
And though fatigued, she serves them still
While writing praises with His quill
Submits (with) faith to God's good will" ... (I suggest,
Submits her faith to God's good will)
**************************************************************
"So to our Lord I will appeal
That Portia He will fully heal
So she'll return with joyful zeal
And write of how God's love is real" ... it's when we are down in the valley that we come closest to God. Your last verse reminded me of a song I borrowed words from, and wrote my own music to. Nothing wrong with the original music, of course, but I wanted to make it more lively for the kids.
In The Valley He Restoreth My Soul"

How is pharp doing now? Do you know? Many of us take our good health for granted, don't we?

All the Best, Helen.
Blessings,
Kimbob

    Thank you so much, Kimbob! You have a wealth of songs and praises at your fingertips and they all come to mind as you read other people's works. Thanks for your suggestions. This was just to get others to pray and the Lord has answered. She's back home and awaits test results by Monday. We pray that the growth is benign. She writes that God is Good!! Hugs and blessings!

Healing energy and best wishes to Portia. And thank you for sharing this information in a beautiful flowing spiritual write.

I also appreciate your author notes.

In my experience creativity of any kind helps to attract positive energy which in turn helps caregivers carry out their onerous duties with a loving heart.

Stay safe

Blessings Julia

What a beautiful, caring poem, Helen. I don't know Portia, probably because I don't follow many poets, but I understand the strength that is needed to be a caregiver. Being ill herself makes it so much harder. I offer my prayers to her and all the writers on here who have their own crosses to bare.

I have not read Pharp...I am wondering how many people are there whom I may never know..
Thank you very much for including all care givers...
My prayers will be for her for i understand what exactly what she is going through .Often I ignore my troubles because i can't afford to be sick.
Your mono rhymed stanzas have the tone of an intense prayer......

I did not know this.
I will certainly pray for her,
she is such a loving, giving person.
Her poetry is always so uplifting.
I pray God blesses her tomorrow, and in the days
to follow.
Beautiful poem Miss Helen,

I have always had a soft spot for the name Portia. Just have loved the name. I will add her to my prayer list and ask the church to add her to the prayer chain. It is so good of you to care enough to bring this to our attention. Thank you.
