This little story sound a lot like life in a small town. It's nice that the Hendersons took the Coats family under their wing since they were apparently new in town. I like the picture, too. Good luck in the contest.

Halloween sounds like they had a lot of fun and games, the kids always loved to trick or treat and also give candy to the little rules. The schools used to have faith for the kids During the Halloween season. They raised money selling pumpkins and baked goods.

A neat Halloween story. A friendly and warm scene. The pace was good. The images strong. The language fits the subject.
My only suggestion is that short stories usually end with a twist. It gives added impact to a story which is of need uninvolved.
