So, Brett:

I suppose the question that goes with this sixer is "Are you going to expand this so your readers can learn what the secret of Fayette Flatts is"? With your abilities, I bet you could spin quite a story to go with this.

Hmm, interesting. Despite the length, there seems to be a lot of backstory missing. We have different people doing things not in their interest, or In some cases downright deadly to themselves for no real reason. Very curious.

I would guess either Billie or Shawn Silverman's twin brother was at the crime scene. (Fire)Since you didn't use first names for the twins I suspect the twin was the one shot and buried. I can only guess. Well done Brett. Nancy:)

    Actually Floyd was killed.

Silverman is not the killer though.

He died to keep the real killer a secret.

    Any notion who she is?

Love to know the secret. Too bad Silverman was such a bad man. Some people never learn. Thank you for sharing. I wish you all the best. You did a good job. Good luck

This is quite the story, leaving the reader with questions. Does Silverman want to leave Floyd and his fiance with guilt over his death, or is there something else going on (a disguise, mistaken identity)? The narration suggests it is the former. Well done and thanks for the exciting read!

Glad you enjoyed this story. Appreciate the review.

Actually, the secret of Fayette Flatts is Silverman's willingness to die to protect the real killer.

Any notion who that may be?

Very descriptive writing.
Like molasses run through a sieve, Silverman slowly turned around. He pointed his pistol at the sheriff. [interesting simile of Sliverman turn around] Very good chapter.

This is a very well told story, I enjoyed reading it a lot. The characters are so real and gritty. I liked the descriptions too. One thing though-

See you back in town, Shawn."

"That I am," Silverman replied. No desire to be bothered, he asked.

I think his reply is illogical, so maybe you deleted some part and forgot to change this?

Thanks for sharing

One has to wonder what possessed Floyd to approach a hot-tempered man like Silverman and willingly proffer such a damming confession, unprovoked and unasked.

Excellent imagery: gnarled like knuckles on a withered hand

My, in effect, Silverman committed suicide. How sad.

An intriguing story.

Had not thought of Silverman's getting shot as a form of suicide. Adds another dimension to the tale.

My point with that event was he died to protect the real killer.

Any notions on who that might be?

Appreciate your view of Silverman's getting shot.
