The quiet left when a loved one is gone can become unbearable. The everyday sounds of her presence are missing, leaving a large void. In time, perhaps, the emptiness will not be as heavy - but for now, it is like a crushing weight. Your poem has captured the essence of loss beautifully and poignantly. Well done.

I enjoyed reading your contest entry. Your poem describes the emotion of a love lost and maybe of regret of not fulfilling all the love possible. Thank you for sharing and good luck.

This excellent free verse expresses the void left behind when someone close is lost...especially the regrets felt over a love that has been undervalued and time overlooked. Best wishes in the contest.

How incredibly sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. The emptiness, loneliness, longing and hollowness in your gut. Yes, dear friend you've portrayed all that and more. Hold onto your memories , family and friends for support and the loss will ease over time. Franky

I am so sorry for your devastating loss, truly. I hope you can find some solace in the fact that you had such a long life together, it is such a beautiful thing that not many are lucky to have.
The poem moved me deeply, it is heart wrenching. Hug

Hi Terry,

Oh this spells loneliness out loud in the quiet! If that makes sense. I know after my mother passed away and the homestead was empty (my father passing nine years before)...when I would go back over there to sort through things to keep and throw out or give away... it was like the silence of a tomb. My ears would ring in the silence and I could hardy stand being there with out them in the home.

I got this same feeling reading your sad poem that expresses deep sadness after losing your wife. It is a time of great reflection.

God bless,
Senyai

Your short sharp sentences and phrases are like hammers of grief and loneliness hitting the heart. It makes your poem more powerful, as though the words don't come easily because of shock and grief. Well written. Best wishes for your entry.

Each stanza could stand alone as a poem. So together they are even more powerful! The third stanza is my favorite. Love the verbs - circles..fills the night with emptiness.. Silence is golden.

This poem has moved me deeply. Through the use of specific details and parallel structuring, you have conveyed a profound message about devastating loss, grief, and loneliness. (Line 4--no apostrophe needed)

I found the author's words to be sad, descriptive, clear and creative.
I pondered on the theme of these words and thought about the grief these
words revealed to me. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork goes well with the theme and words of this poem.
