Oh, I liked this a lot. I'm a prose writer and not a poetry writer, at all, apart from the odd one, but I do enjoy reading poetry. And I really liked your poem a lot. Welcome to the site. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

Good Morning, Terry!
Goodness... absolutely heart-wrenching.
I appreciate your presentation and the paucity of words you expressed to share with readers the passing of your loved one.
The personification of Death as possessing the ability to "slip under the door" is profound. As is this stanza:
Before,
Love undervalued
Time overlooked.

Thank you for sharing.
My sincere condolences...
diane

Well this is such a touching piece... good luck in the contest... there is so much we take for granted in our lives... then one day we find what we took for granted is gone... the sadness is palpable.

Oh goodness, this was beautiful. I love analyzing poems and such, and this one was really fun to pick apart. I have struggled with loneliness (haven't we all) and found that, especially in the last few lines, the narrator expresses a terrible loneliness that resonated with me. I love sad stuff, and thus, I enjoyed your poem. Well done.

Despite it being one of the most fundamental emotions that we experience, sadness is often not discussed, and certainly never encouraged. You have penned a very poignant poem that touches the heart of the readers. Good luck in the contest!

This poem is heartbreaking. I hope it is not true for you although I suspect it is. I really like the format that you have written it in. I wish you lots of luck in the competition.

This is a moving poem. I certainly could sympathize the feelings. You have expressed well how you feel.

It isn't easy to deal with any changes. Only time can heal. We have no choice but accept birth, aging, sickness and death. Yet life goes on.

Our deceased loved ones want us to enjoy life even when they are gone.

Thanks for sharing your feelings.

Heartrending. Punch to the gut. I hope this is not biographical--it certainly has the feel of true mourning. Stunning piece.

sugg: [they are=>she is] gone (to keep it personal to her)

Oh my! This is so sad. You've expressed it so vividly in this poem of regret and sorrow, what it would be like to lose a mate unexpectedly. This stanza especially grabbed my heart...

"Before,
Love undervalued
Time overlooked."

And of course, the closing lines also... "Only sadness and the quiet." This is just amazingly real and wrenchingly sad. Well done, and truly heartbreaking. MM

Dear author,

That night
Death slipped under
The door and took you
To its mystic light....

A very good job!!! Well written. May God bless you and your family!
